Sorry for your loss and condolences to your family. Each individual is different and therefore, the way we react to situations can be different. It is a good thing that your brother has acknowledged the problem - good start. Next, I would prefer (again depends on the person but since I don't know your brother I will have to make some assumptions) to sort this problem out on a personal level. He needs to take a break from work and indulge in a favorite activity of his choice. For example, if cricket is his favorite sport playing cricket can help. Similarly reading, swimming etc. (any activity which your brother thoroughly enjoyed before) should help. If this too is not working out (give it 7-10 days), please seek advice of a medical professional. PS - I can empathize with your scenario. Please take my comments in the right spirit.

Extremely sorry to hear about it and words or advise from me would be without context to your situation. However, as a very general advise I would encourage you to take some time off work and spend it with your brother since you have taken this setback in a more pragmatic way. A couple of weeks with him and close contact with him in the ensuing months might be able to ensure that he does not go down the path of depression, from which recovery is difficult. It will also benefit his family and children a lot. Professional help is a good option as well, but sometimes people are not very open to it in these circumstances and take it upon yourself to impress upon him that it's a good thing rather than a crutch for his loss. But again, this might be completely out of context and I hope you and your near ones fight this setback to come out stronger.

Very sorry to hear about this mate. As mentioned earlier it is very much case specific and any generic advice may not work. However based on what I know, Psychiatrists are helpful in cases of cdepressions where you have medical reasons. These kind of depressions can trigger without any setback in life. But for emotional setbacks psychologists are better professional help. In such cases family help can also make things better. Anyways, I am not an expert on subject and have put my explaination in very ameteurish way, so take advice accordingly. Hope your brother comes out of this soon.

Sorry for your loss. Every individual/situation is different and it is difficult and intellectually dishonest to provide any advice without more knowledge about the person/situation. As others also suggested, most generic thing that helps most is - taking a proper break, indulging in activities that make you happy/ (and if possible physically tired too). Efficacy of professional help also depends from person to person, if your brother himself has identified/acknowledged the problem and willing to try this (and other options), then one thing is sure - things will get better sooner than later. As they say, identifying a problem is the first and foremost step towards solving it.

Sorry for your loss tiger...If you don't mind me asking...how old is your brother? My neighbor in India passed away 3 years back to cancer and he has 2 sons who were aged 9 and 3 then...obviously the 3 yr old was too young to realise the loss but the 8-9 year old did get some professional help which definetely helped him.

sorry to hear that man i think u should just talk to him...maybe not about ur father just stay with him ..that always helps also its much harder for some people to just get in terms that they will never see that person again.. im sure he will deal with it better in some time but till then take care of him and make sure he is not always alone and thinking about it..u just have to accept it and move on

Sorry to hear that. Time is a great healer. (In my experience), so give yourselves time and distract yourselves (or your brother) doing things that will bring peace and calm (prayers, music, etc.). The first few days are surreal, and then you realize that the reality is irreversible, which takes time to heal out of. Do things that will make you fondly remember him.
