Sehwag dropped Warner, Kohli dropped Clarke and Pujara dropped Henriques in this test, there were a number of half chances which we missed. Thats one area where we cannot slip up during this rebuilding phase. The technique of the slip and close-in fielders is also something that deserves some hard work. None of them are crouching low enough, have got stiffer lower bodies which slows down the reflexes.

I think with this line up we would be able to beat South Africa 1. Vijay 2. Sehwag 3. Pujara 4. Kohli 5. Raina 6. Dhoni 7. Jadeja 8. Bhuvaneshwar 9. Ashwin 10. Ishant 11. Dinda.

Vijay is a natural opener who is required in tough conditions of South Africa, you can't play middle order batsmen as openers there. Ishant, I agree, is poor but he is not getting dropped. In place of Dinda we can select another swing bowler like Sreesanth, Dinda has good bouncer so he will be good too.

Openers you can pick anyone, even can play BK and Ishant as openers and they can both open the innings with the bat and the ball, because no one is going to survive against Steyn and Philander.:giggle:

bharat297 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 This win is purely going to cover the cracks in the system, but India have always been very short sighted when it comes to fixing their own system. We've always been unable to take the short term pain of losing a home series if it meant increasing our chances of winning consistently abroad. The home series' against New Zealand, England and Australia would have been a perfect opportunity for India to try to blood consistent Ranji Trophy performers like Ajinkya Rahane, Manoj Tiwary, Rohit Sharma, Pankaj Singh and many others. It would have given them the opportunity to dip their feet into Test cricket starting in conditions that are familiar to them (at home) before facing the challenge of winning abroad. It would have given India a chance to rebuild after Sehwag, Gambhir, Tendulkar, Zaheer, etc. Unfortunately though, India chose to persist with all of those guys because the England series was deemed 'too important to take a chance with'. Don't get me wrong, Sehwag, Gambhir, Tendulkar and Zaheer have all been wonderful servants for India but Sehwag/Gambhir failed miserably abroad, Tendulkar is too old now and Zaheer is constantly injured. Sooner or later we are going to have to plan for the future. But the lack of planning has and continues to plague Indian cricket. As an Indian fan, I have come to accept this and realise that we are never going to be a dominant No.1 team due to this attitude ... we might reach the No.1 ranking briefly again ... but we'll never reach the heights of a West Indies, Australia or even to a much lesser extent the current South African team because we always think short term. So I am happy to take any victory we can get now because the changes that need to be made for India's long-term success won't be made any time soon.

He is very, very accurate compared to the other spinners in the match like Harbhajan or Lyon. That was one thing that Warne appreciated about him.

We are not going to beat SA in SA anyway no matter whoever we play. Our best two chances with stable batting line were in 2006 and 2010 which both were missed. You expect us to win now. No way we will even compete there this time around and will lose like Pak lost.

Unless BCCI has the foresight to make Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Gambhir, Umesh, Ashwin etc. skip IPL and play county cricket where there is bounce, swing and seam movement and conditions are similar to SA. They will still find it very tough in SA but they will be in a better position. Otherwise, they will have no chance.
