Trichromatic Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Expected the haters here! He might be the most successful along with Ganguly but ICF "experts" have a totally different opinion. :giggle: When was the last time you saw a captain throwing out the best bowler?
Number Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 A world cup eliminator is just an odd game WOW Believe me, I am no fan of Dravid's captaincy, he did some ridiculous things in Tests. But calling him the worst captain because we lost an ODI against BD is height of absurdity. What was his fault in our ODI greats like Sachin, Ganguly, Dhoni not being able to handle BD spinners. Then blame the stupid format.
vvvslaxman Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Azhar was a horrible captain as well.. please don't go by his stat.
Lord Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Its not about results for me. People lose sight of the fact that Dravid was the captain when India defeated England 1-0 in the series which remains our only victory away against a big team (Aus, Sa being the others) for the past 20 years. The fact remains though, IMO Dravid was a meek captain who was not mentally strong enough to stand for himself and became a tool in the hands of Chappel. Dravid also did not defend his team when it came to a losses like any captain should and did not stick up enough for the members of the team. Its nothing for me to do with 07 WC defeat. But Indian cricket in general had become a mudslinging joke in the newspapers with the Chappell and Ganguly saga. Dravid for me did not do enough and did not put his foot down in many cases. I may not like Dhoni as a captain too much, but atleast he is the one calling the shots. Dravid was so weak that Chappell called the shots via Dravid. Dhoni is lucky he got coaches that work from background. Its hypothetical to say he'd have handled Chappell better
saneindian Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Given his record recently has to be Dhoni. But honestly other than Dravid, all our recent captains have been tactically incompetent. So the likes of Ganguly or Kumble will not be very far either. As pointed out though, for all his tactical nous, Dravid by towing the Chappel line blindly (and hence alienating most of his teammates) did destroy the little legacy he could have built as a captain.
carnish Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Azhar was a horrible captain as well.. please don't go by his stat. True This.

But calling him the worst captain because we lost an ODI against BD is height of absurdity. What was his fault in our ODI greats like Sachin, Ganguly, Dhoni not being able to handle BD spinners. Then blame the stupid format. Where did i said Dravid is our worst Captain? Infact in another thread i said Dravid has been our best test captain based on results. But he deserves a lot of blame for pathetic show in the 2007 world cup.It is he who selected 4 openers in the top 7 (Uttappa , Sehwag , Sachin and Ganguly ) , Forced our best opener to come in at 4 and deciding not to select Pathan in the playing XI , etc. Its not just the world cup.But we were knocked out in group stage in 2006 CT at HOME.
Rohit S. Ambani Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 I think Dravid was worst, we hardly won anything, his own form in both ODIs and Tests was all time low. He was responsible for Sachin's downward spiral. He denied 200 to Sachin, such a strong Indian team knocked out in WC2007 under his captaincy (Worst period in Indian Cricket). He was not popular with Media and Commercial Ad world.
saneindian Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 I am not even rating that "court acquitted" traitor, only god knows how many of his tactical decisions (or the lack of it) were influenced by the fixers

Number Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 Dravid handled his bowlers well. But his defensive mindset in terms of series result was the worst. Despite having first innings lead in the 3rd test SA-06, him and Sachin just played for the draw. His 12(96) despite having 300+ runs lead in England. Worst of all choosing to bowl first in Mumbai and giving away the series.
CSK Fan Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Wait, how on earth is Dhoni one of the worst captains? Just becuase he lost his mind recently, doesnt mean he is not one of the finest captain India had, particularly in LOIs Laaloo 1
MCcricket Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 This ICF interface sucks, why did they change the website.Dhoni to me is the worst in recent times. Most India. captains were mediocre Dada and Pataudi the best, Dhoni and Tendulkar the worst.

G_B_ Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Dhoni is lucky he got coaches that work from background. Its hypothetical to say he'd have handled Chappell better thats a hypothetical. One thing i do know is Dhoni is his own man. I am guessing even if the coach was working in the background he would control dravid

As much I blame our batting for that loss, to see Sachin given out when the ball would have missed the 8th stump on the leg side (was Dar the umpire?) and then to see an Indian wicket lost on the 7th ball of an over was a joke. And to top it all, just when we looked like having saved the test with heavy rains on day 5 halting play , it all dried up, SA came back and duly scored the runs..painful memories those of what could have been :((
kubrickian Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Dhoni is worst captain ? World Cup win, World T20 win, reached No.1 in test and ODI rankings, test series win in West Indies, drawn series in South Africa, home series wins against Australia, NZ, WI and dominant in ODIs at home. Some people have no clue what they are talking about. Under Ganguly, we were also whitewashed in Australia and under Dravid, we lost home series against Australia.
