Well it all comes down to Indian Culture and how deeply it is ingrained in everyone involved in running cricket in India or for that matter whole country... PM to a cricket captain or the frigging coach does your performance matter ? What matters is you are keeping special interest group happy which is what Dhoni did and Duncan is happy to tag along as long as he is making $$.

+1 Maybe if Fletcher is not unmovable its time to arm the rest of the management team? Get a good bowling coach a good batting coach and a good fielding coach. So atleast technically the players are well supported.

Fletcher's extension has nothing to do with how good he is. In fact, everyone knows he's no good. I think Dhoni feels that if Fletcher gets the boot, he'll have to deal with an Indian coach, possibly, Ganguly. We know how that's going to work, given how much Ganguly loves Dhoni. Picture Fletcher as a guy standing at the door blocking the way for a new coach and given his frame its not too hard to imagine.

Have to agree here. Results under Fletcher have been horrendous and I don't think he is any good but at the end of the day, when you have scumbags like Dhoni and Srinivasan controlling Indian cricket, there is not much anyone can do to save us. We can bring a new guy in but Dhoni and Srinivasan will bully him anyway.

While I am not a big fan of fletcher, I can somewhat understand why they did this. Fletcher's role was to oversee a transition period in Indian cricket, similar to what he oversaw in England in the early to mid 2000s when England lost the likes of mainstays like Stewart,Hussain,caddick,gough,thorpe and many others. England came out of there with good results for a little while. India at the moment are undergoing a transition period and it's important that the youngsters develop familiarity with the coaching structure. I would rather judge Duncan properly in a year when the youngsters have had time to fit in to this team. Contrary to what people believe, a coach's role is not to do with strategy or teaching these guys how to play. It's primarily, and especially in Indian cricket, about man management. This is where Kirsten was brilliant and Chappell was poor. A coach is more a facilitator of training and the captain is the main tactician. The reason we lost 8-0 is that the senior players didn't perform brilliantly like they have in previous away tours. It wasn't due to poor tactics or strategy. They were just getting old and up against 2 good teams on their home turf. Im not a fan of Duncan but people expecting to just drop a new coach in and expect brilliant results overseas seem to forget that it's the players themselves that are out there for 5 days.
