Saffers have the massive luxury in Kallis. With 4 pacers- Dhawan Vijay Pujara Kohli Rohit Dhoni Ashwin - - - - We can fit in 4 pacers but would have to cut short a batsman. If the pitch has no turn, we could afford to drop Ashwin and bowl some offies with Rohit and Dhawan.

has Ojha done enough to pip Jaddu as backup spinner to SA?:hmmm: Ojha : more experienced,can run through a side if it turns.more likely to succeed as a spinner in unhelpful conditions as gives flight (no prior evidence though).poor in batting and fielding.Also can be expensive Jaddu : Had a good start.showed in CT he can turn it in unhelpful conditions.can hold an end up if not take wickets.Provides batting and good fielder

nope but some times you bowl well and do not pick wickets its not like we can watch match but if past is to go by anything he will pick wickets easily in 1 of 2 games

From today's team we will get Jaddu in for Sachin and Ojha will be replaced by Zak.... I don't see any other changes to the XI for the first SA test

just about to post this team, saw yours... basically this is a very aggressive team with attacking intentions 1. by having ojha instead of jadeja, india is looking to penetrate and not just hold one end. 2. now yadav becomes the 5th bowler and not ojha who came in place of the 5th bowler jadeja. having a 90mph 5th bowler in yadav is super luxury 3. batting is solid and there is not a huge change... because jadeja isnt a century maker in test cricket on bouncy wickets. i doubt he can make a 50 even in 10 chances. he a ftb and a handy hitter in limited overs thatsall. 4. more responsibility on ashwin but dhoni just loves jadeja too much... i dont think this would happen even if it is the right thing to do.

As long as Jadeja can provide reasonable spin option instead of Ojha then that's fine too, batting is just a bonus if it works. But I'm still skeptical on going with 3 seamers, if the conditions are good, two seamers should be more then enough to run through the side, otherwise doesn't matter how many you have and it would make no difference. So it might be safe to play Rahane instead and drop one of the seamers.

Quite frank to be SA's form is all time low (since Kirsten left the job) and India on the other hand is in full form. Though India relatively have an inexperienced side but that's the strength I would say. For the first time I see our bowling unit to be really good and batsmen in full form. I personally feel India will give a tough time to SA and would surprise everyone.
