By 2006 he started showing signs of having matured, taking Rajasthan to the final of the Ranji Plate league, with 21 wickets at 20.95. In 2007, he was part of India A's twin tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya, and a total of 18 wickets in the unofficial Tests and ODIs in Kenya earned him a spot for the home series against South Africa A. With Sreesanth and Munaf Patel injured, he earned a call-up to India's Test squad to tour Australia. He signed with the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural IPL before transferring to Royal Challengers Bangalore for the second season. His next big break came when he was included in the limited-overs sides for India's tour of Zimbabwe, when the selectors decided to rest several senior players.

The numbers suggest he is India's best seamer right now the way he is bowling, he is bowling better then anytime I have seen him before, he is our best domestic bowler for last 4 years, he is about 6 6" tall, now bowls around 135 to 140 k, gets bounce and able to move the ball both ways, can bowl long spells, and is accurate, gets bucket load of wickets, hard working and in his peak form. He always had the potential but his pace earlier was hovering around 130"s and his actions had some chinks, now fitter and with a refined action and a smoother run up he gets more pace bounce and should not be ignored, he should be included for the 3rd and 4 th test, played ahead of Ishant, Dinda .

Did not do much special in first too. Dinda bowled well in first, but got only 1 wicket, and 1 wicket in second match as well. Pankaj had 9 in his first match, had an ordinary 2nd match with 1 wicket on flattest of the track in a drawn match and only 2 innings completed in 4 days.

Such was Pankaj's energy that each one of his three spells on a meaningless last day, was as good as - if not better than - his opening spell of the match under a blazing sun on the first morning at the KL Saini Stadium. Even though Pankaj, 27, tried to be as optimistic as possible, there was a hint of frustration in his voice. And soon, rather than answering a question, he himself raised one that has been pondering not only him but a lot of Indian cricket followers. "Can someone tell me why is it that I am not picked for India [in Tests]?" he asked. "I have picked 150 wickets in the last four domestic seasons and there have been so many others who have been given an opportunity. Why I am not presented with an opportunity? What more do I need to do to seek attention [of the selectors]?" There's no doubt that Pankaj has a point while venting out his dejection. After all, despite being one of the most accurate, consistent and wicket-taking bowlers on the domestic scene over the last five seasons, he has been consistently ignored by the national selectors. The only time he was part of the Test squad was during the tour to Australia in 2007-08 but he didn't get an opportunity to bowl in a competitive game during the tour. The only time he wore the national jersey was during the tri-nation series in Zimbabwe in June 2012 as part of a second-string India squad led by Suresh Raina. While all the other India pace bowlers on that tour have played at least one Test, Pankaj is still waiting for his chance. Since then, he has consistently picked wickets in domestic cricket. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2010-11 Ranji season with 43 wickets [53 in the whole domestic season] and was the third highest wicket-taker in Rajasthan's victorious campaign last season. Did he try and ask any selector - none of whom is a member of the refurbished national selection panel - about what he needed to do in order to get a national call-up? "I had asked one of them about three years ago. I was told I was lacking in pace, so I worked on it and now, I can consistently bowl 135+ [kph] for hours," he said. "Then they said I don't perform against the big teams. I can tell you that I have played six games against Mumbai and barring two of them [including last week's Group A tie], I have picked rich hauls in the other four games." Despite his returns of one for 90 against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai in Jaipur last week, Pankaj has picked three five-wicket hauls in six outings against the domestic stalwarts. If only he could add 10-15 kph to his speed, then he will be effective. He only bowls around 120-125 kph most of the time which is not enough to trouble quality batsmen who are used to playing much quicker bowlers in helpful conditions.

Rajasthan's bowling coach Mayrick Pringle worked on his bowling action and helped him gain pace. He clocked up to 141K in match against Bengal which was broaacasted live, consistencly around 135K and moving the ball, also got extra bounce. He was pretty much as quick as Dinda was and also took 9 wickets in that macth.

You gotta be blind as selectors not to have him in test squad, he bowls around 135 to 142 k now, gets bounce and movement on any track, a class above any bowler I have seen playing including our test stars as Zaheer is not the same bowler and saw him and Dinda bowl in the same game it was like chalk and cheese, he has upped his pace to average around 135 now and has refined his action, also other Rajasthan bowlers have shown a lot of improvement under Pringle , Aniket is a very tall left handed seamer who is also looking good now.

The best longterm bet for tests would most probably be Md. Shami Ahmad and none of the above bowlers in the list. He has has pace, swing and objectivity.

DINDA IS A WASTE OF TIME LIKE BADRINATH, BOTH CAN ONLY BE SUCCESSFUL IN DOMESTIC CRICKET, SHAMI IS READY FOR India COLORS, Pankaj should be bowling for India as he is the best bowler we have along with Umesh presently according to his form and also his figures for last 5 years are better then anyone else, OUR SELECTORS AND BCCI ARE IGNORANT AND DONT HAVE ANY PLANS OR FORESIGHT,SUYAL also per reports is India material and should be looked at before we loose him to injury playing Domestic and burning out, he is a left hander with good pace and can move the ball both ways and gets good bounce because of a strong action, Pankaj, Shami,Suyal dominate domestic batters better then anyone , most of their wickets are bowled and lbw and shows that they are really really good.

Has anyone seen Sid Kaul or Sandeep bowl this Ranji? Shami Ahmed is another good one. Would take Praveen in South Africa though. He was around the pace Philander was in England and can also swing the bowl both ways. Good test record after 6 tests, deserves another chance when India play away.
