It is always interesting to see players in different teams. That's the secret behind sports leagues.
:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Yeah right.

Pretty sure there will be a retention clause. Best way should be all teams should be allowed to retain 8-10 players and all other players (foreign or domestic , capped or uncapped ) should be bought into auction for one final time . After this there shouldn't any more full fledged auctions .

Dhoni will be brought for huge bucks. - Very successful in IPL - An Indian captian - Key player The 2nd option would be taken into consideration. KKR, RCB and CSK are lucky to have Indian captains who are also good players in their side.

People who are metioning costs in Millions need to be said that it will be pretty less for players since from next year, the Auction will be done in Indian National Rupees rather than US DOLLARS, because of the falling trend of Rupees AFAIK. Hence, I guess the whole structure of buying and selling will change and we will see foreign players who have done well in the past getting higher bucks than Indians.

No team has a majority of local players. :dontknow: In any case, they have been given CSK citizenship after playing for so long here

For how long will the players, who are bought on Sunday, be able to play for the franchise that buys them? The players signed on Sunday will be available to play for their respective franchises only in this year's IPL. The contracts of the players who are already with franchises will also end this year. When the players were signed in 2011, the contracts were for two years with the option of extending them for an extra year. The 2014 auction will see more players being auctioned as new contracts will be signed.

Auction causes irrational overbidding which is why you see all these BS prices. Few things needed in the IPL to make it more professional: 1. No auctions, move to a draft system. Everyone who is unsigned goes into a draft. Teams pick in the reverse order of previous season's standing like the NBA, NFL etc. 2. Current teams should have first right of refusal (able to sign a player to a mutually agreed amount) before a player is put back in the draft 3. Have a clear hard salary cap which can't be circumvented by underhand deals and extra ad money and hidden tie breakers 4. Also have cap on individual player salaries based on experience etc so one player doesn't hog the entire payroll

nobody knows about the rules until they are framed :hysterical:
This does not mean "auction everyone" (still unclear). Personally' date=' I think this means their contract ends and franchisees will have an option to retain them. In case they do not, the players will go into the auction pool. This is unlike the situation in 2011.[/quote'] agree thats why I said the rules are not known until they are announced(check my post earlier - quoted)... & often they are announced as an afterthought of SreeniMama or whoever is the BCCI chief at that time

Next year' date=' everybody is supposed to comeback into the auction pool... no retentions[/quote'] If Dhoni and SRT plays in same time and imagine Dhoni dropping Sachin from playing XI :cantstop:

Draft system is a poor system, and if one has seen the SLPL, then he will understand that the draft system is flawed. I remember that 1 team in the SLPL had tamim,jaya, chandimal, kamran,umar,hafeez,azhar mahmood, colin ingram, brad hogg and one team had brendan taylor as their only quality overseas player and locals were murali, mubarak..end of story
