I was wondering why not a single short pitch ball bowled at him last night... :hmmm: Hew got out on full ball playing against the swing, not on a short ball in Mumbai. Ishant do not have the pace of Johnson, neither the pitch was as good as Wankhede for pacers.

In the chennai match he did not get out to a bouncer either. But the previous ball bouncer really screwed him up badly.

Also surprised why Steyn didn't bowl short to Raina.. Whether you've pace or not, whether pitch is assisting or not, why not try some short bowling when you are getting thrashed any way? I thought pace bowlers automatically resort to short bowling when thrashed few times, just to get back to the batsman..unless you've been instructed to not do so...
G_B_ Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 As i have said many times before 35 overs gone and new ball in England for the champions trophy means Raina is not going to enjoy it even batting at 6. For me a Rahane 34 not out on a seaming Jaipur pitch is more valuable than some flat track 100 by Raina. the Mumbai v CSK game showed the difference in class between Rohit and Raina. Internationally Raina is the better for a slow and flat pitch. But cannot do jack on seaming surfaces. We might as well make Raina our T20 captain considering the next two WC's are in Bang and India which should suit raina.

When a bowler is thrashed like that, brain stops working even if it is tiny. Remember Broad hitting for 6 sixes, how many bouncers were there. His last 2 balls were at the same spot and both hit for sixes. Remember last over of Ryan Mclaren against Mumbai, how rubbish he was in that match. When such pressure is on, very few bowlers can keep control on their nerves. It is more about nerves than skills or brain.

Almost all bowlers get hit for runs in the death overs on flat pitches barring a few like Malinga or maybe Gul or Nannes. However, Indian bowlers need to work on their death bowling skills but this is hardly a problem specific to them alone. Even Steyn goes for plenty against the likes of AB Devilliers and Dhoni in IPL.

It just seems that Indian bowlers seem to lose the plot and pitch the ball in the same place and become extremely predictable. There is no variety and dynamic thought process. Atleast with Steyn it takes something special to smash him around the park.

Well then you've been saying the wrong thing many times. The two new balls are taken simultaneously at the start of the innings and used from opposite ends. There is no ball change after 35 overs.
