1983-2011 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 The Shiv Sena on Sunday wrote to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) demanding that the press box at Wankhede Stadium be named after the late Bal Thackeray. Sena functionary Milind Narvekar in his letter said, "The proposal to name the press box gallery after Bal Thackeray has been pending before the MCA. They had promised to consider the proposal, which has been kept in abeyance." Sena told MCA that the matter should be discussed at the meeting May 14. Two IPL matches are scheduled at Wankhede stadium on May 13 and May 15. According to the Sena, it will be ideal if decision is arrived at this week. However, sources in the MCA refused to make any commitment. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/shiv-sena-wants-wankhede-box-named-after-bal-thackeray/1115021/
G_B_ Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I doubt it will happen MCA is full of congress and ncp people. But you never know, they might do it. Dont want the BMC to cause them all sorts of problems.
maniac Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Why not...If the Stadium in Hyderabad is named after Rajiv Gandhi who had nothing to do with Hyderabad leave alone Hyd Cricket, then Bal Thackeray is a more significant figure in Mumbai. Not too over the top as OP is trying to suggest. But both Counts-Ridiculous
Clarke Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 What next' date=' name a box after Dawood Ibrahim?[/quote'] Thackeray would be one of the last persons I would vote for but seriously, a politician vs India's most wanted terrorist ?

maniac Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Being a prime minister doesn't count ? :nervous: That's not what I meant.....Thackeray is atleast synonymous with Mumbai.....Rajiv Gandhi yes was prime minister but it is not that state of Andhra Pradesh hasn't produced prime ministers or presidents for the matter of fact......anyways where did Rajiv come into all this....I don't agree with both premises but Thackerays case makes more sense here. Infact the stadium was supposed to be named visakha stadium as it was constructed by visakha industries.....that would be so much cooler like MetLife stadium,Allstate arena, wrigley feld rather than having a pale, moronic, bald, inefficient and undeserving prime ministers name instead.

Mariyam Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Much ado over nothing? After all, for his glorious contribution to peace and harmony in the city, the state government awarded Bal Thackeray with a State sponsored funeral, with his body draped in the tricolour. And they even had the 21 gun salute. In comparison, naming a box after him at the Wankhede is no bigge. While the Shiv Sena is at it, maybe the should ask for the film industry to be called Balywood also.

JourneyMan Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 You seem to have very nuanced reading of history. You seem to have not read it at all! You're saying Thackeray wasn't involved in the riots? Wow.
seedhi Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 You seem to have not read it at all! You're saying Thackeray wasn't involved in the riots? Wow.No more than how much Nehru was involved in partition riots and Rajiv Gandhi in 1984 riots, but that hasnt stopped us from naming half the country after them.
