If a women wants to give sex for money' date=' who has d rights to stop it from doing it? Its her wish and rights what she can do with her body.[/quote'] As George Carlin once said "Selling is legal. F***ing is legal. Then why is selling f***ing illegal?"

We shouldn't legalise prostitution because 80% girls today are forced into prostitution by good for nothing pimps, against their will. Legalising it will result in more innocent girls being forcefully dragged into it. Such practices should be made legal in a place where there is acceptability for it. Not in a place like India.
Actually legalizing it will bring the opposite effect of what you are stating. A legal prostitution ring will have keep a record of each and every girl it has, their backgrounds, etc. Health workers, etc will have official access to all the girls. In such a scenario girls being forced will be much lesser

If I'm not wrong' date=' it will have the exact opposite effect. It will also lead to better laws to deal with offenders.[/quote'] I don't know. I guess you're right but I feel it's like giving consent to drag girls into this business. Aur laws toh abhi bhi hain. Implementation is the problem. Even if you make laws and there isn't any proper implementation then there's no point in having them..

Spot on, Kind of ridiculous argument that can't protect young girls to be forced to prostitution when it is illegal, it leads to better laws when it is legal :giggle: Legalizing will only do worse because police will eat money from pimps more openly and these girls will have no say except suffer in these brothels.

Not true.80% of prostitutes choose prostituition out of necessity
Most of the research done by Sanlaap indicates that the majority of sex workers in India work as prostitutes due to lacking resources to support themselves or their children. Most do not choose this profession out of preference, but out of necessity, often after the breakup of a marriage or after being disowned and thrown out of their homes by their families. The children of sex workers are much more likely to get involved in this kind of work as well. A survey completed in 1988 by the All Bengal Women's Union interviewed a random sample of 160 sex workers in Calcutta and, of those, 23 claimed that they had come of their own accord, whereas the remaining 137 women claimed to have been introduced into the sex trade by agents of various sorts. The breakdown was as follows: Neighbour in connivance with parents: 7 Neighbours as pimps (guardians not knowing): 19 Aged sex workers from same village or locality: 31 Unknown person/accidental meeting with pimp: 32 Mother/sister/near relative in the profession: 18 Lover giving false hope of marriage or job and selling to brothel: 14 Close acquaintance giving false hope of marriage or job: 11 "Husband" (not legally married): 3 Husband (legally married): 1 Young college student selling to brothel and visiting free of cost: 1 The breakdown of the agents by sex were as follows: 76% of the agents were female and 24% were males. Over 80% of the agents bring young women into the profession were known people and not traffickers: neighbors, relatives, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_India
Unless anybody has master plan to eradicate poverty , poor women will continue to choose prostituition out of financial necessity

Currently, these things happen even w/o consent. Laws will give more power to the judiciary which is currently crippling. Just in case, prostitution in some form is legal in India.

The problem is that it will open up an easy income to come young college girls who are too naive to understand what they are getting into.

That is exactly the opposite of how it works. Every country that has legalized prostitution has found that it does lead to a surge in prostitution but it instantly improves the safety, working conditions and spirit of the prostitutes. This is because while it is illegal, they rely on pimps to keep territorries in check, deal with cops or protect them from cops, etc etc. All this leads to the pimp holding a dominant position (effectively, the manager) of prostitution and it is usually these pimps ( the female versions, the madames, are former prostitute turned handlers too) that cause the rampant abuse, etc. for prostitution. Countries such as holland have found that since they legalized prostitution in Amsterdam Red light districts, its lead to a significant drop in exploitation of minors in the industry, because legalizing it drops the necessity of keeping the whole business hidden. Now, legit prostitutes and brothels do not have to fear police visits anymore than any other business does. The police also visit more regularly, as registered businesses are far easier to drop in on and check out, etc. and this leads to a marked drop in minors in brothels situation. Overall, leaving arbitary moralities written by ignorant people 2000 years ago, legalizing prostitution makes a whole lot of sense. It reduces minors in the system. It instantly improves the working condition of the prostitutes. It leads to a sharp reduction in crime and violence associated with prostitution. It makes the system safer, it also fills government coffers with a ton of cash. The main argument against prostitution is a moral one. The conservative folks who lead their lives by primitive principles will never be for it and a lot of non conservative parents associations are against it too, because nobody relishes the idea of trying to explain to their 5 year old kid what the heck is that 'Madame Sally's Pleasure Palace' sign is supposed to mean....

How fair/ethical is the ban on (cricket) betting anyways? Most state have a system of 'state lotteries'. Maharashtra State Lottery was introduced to wean people away from the matka dens. There are differing opinions about how much of an effect it had on the matka dens. In fact, there was a huge hue and cry when the State Lottery was introduced. For a few months all dock workers and certain mill workers had to part with a miniscule percentage of their pay. It went into the state lotteries. They were of course welcome to bet more should they so feel. The arguement of the government (and they lost the case) was that the dock workers were the ones who were suffering the most at the hands of criminal elements via the unfair gambling dens. The flip-side of this move was that those who didn't bet/gamble also had to involuntarily part with some money. But all in all, IMO, the move had the intended effect. In light of this, does it make sense to ban sport betting? Dual standards by the governments In the end, the legal vice will always prevail over the illegal virtue.

I keep saying this' date=' the problem we face is implementation of existing laws. Police & judiciary barely function, we'll need to get those in order if we expect new laws to deliver their promises.[/quote'] Agree with this. Before talking about whether laws need to be changed or not, we first need to see how they work IF they are actually implemented. At the moment, if you have money and friends in the right places you can do whatever you want in India.

For all those who are comparing legalization of prostitution in western countries with India, I must say they have no idea how policing works in India. Mostly whoever having the license has to pay hefty mamool to keep the license, police will threaten to cancel the license if not mamool is paid and brothels are allowed to run freely without any constraints. It is like giving pimps freedom to get more innocent girls who are sold by their parents for a sum. Legalization is good for those countries where women are free to chose prostitution as a career without force, India has a long way to go there.

I dont think betting should be made legal in India.most indians are amateurs and will quickly lose their shirt ,making betting legal also wont eliminate fixers in sports so there is no real incentive to legalize it.

All of what you have said is correct about the way policing works in India, but even if you think laws and legalization works only 30% in India, things will still be 30% better than what it is now

Forcing women into prostitution is still going on at a huge scale. How on earth will legalizing add to it? It will only remove from it because no matter how corrupt, legal institutes still keep records, still have raids, still come under government scanner. As of now, since it is illegal, there are no records, police look the other way. There are no major rehabilitation plans, no healthcare, etc By all accounts such instances will reduce drastically if legalized.

India hasnt matured enough to legalize these things. Vast majority of people are retards and they will easily get addicted to these things, blow all their money away, could get into debts from mobsters and could create big law and order problems. Till India achieves 100 % literacy and becomes a more civilized society with a better standard of living, prostitution, betting, alcohol consumption should be kept under check.

You know how many countries are there with 100% literacy rate right now? Total five and all of them have a small population and god wealth. Four of them have a population of less than one lakh.
