Ammunition and what not' date=' bottom line is that a guy who is at least middle class and has 2 kids, has been asked to pay 500 bucks a month for each kid. What injustice to the poor male who will be out of pocket the grand sum of 2000 rupees in which his ex partner raise 2 kids and live a lavish lifestyle. Right ?[/quote'] Do you even know the meaning of context? thats what I had written on child welfare part. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=2486875&postcount=27

Most of those words are used by men and have been used sarcastically .The post is based on realism not idealism. The laws of a country are based on the society. You don't find anti dowry in the US for a reason. As for the rest...difference of opinion I guess. edit -The word S* lut has been used mostly as a common word for both genders specially to highlight how it is unfairly used for one sex..
A bit of deviation from thread discussion. But following was US government's opinion on dowry law. This used to be part of US travel advisory. Provides an idea how dowry law has been abused. http://www.saibaba-x.org.uk/14/India%20-%20Consular%20Information%20Sheet.htm http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Consular_Information_Sheet_-_India
DOWRY/VISA DEMANDS: A number of U.S. citizen men who have come to India to marry Indian nationals have been arrested and charged with crimes related to dowry extraction. Many of the charges stem from the U.S. citizen's inability to provide an immigrant visa for his prospective spouse to travel immediately to the United States. The courts sometimes order the U.S. citizen to pay large sums of money to his spouse in exchange for the dismissal of charges. The courts normally confiscate the American's passport, and he must remain in India until the case has been settled. There are also cases of U.S. citizen women whose families force them against their will into marriages to Indian nationals.

While the law may not be the fairest and often abused...dowry and brutal dowry deaths are a sad reality of our culture. The anger should be directed towards the people who kill for dowry because of whom this act had to be brought in and continues to exist. Changes need to be made in the law but a change in the society is the greater need of the hour. The faster people stop demanding and killing for dowry..the faster this law will become redundant.

Do you know how much you whinge about laws favoring women while you cant find more than a few cases where men were actually victimized, do you know that you havent been able to find a case where a woman got substantial amount of money which she didnt deserve to get , do you know that you dont get as upset about fathers contributing squat towards their kids while women are thrown out of the house and are supposed to raise the kids on their own ? :angelic:

See its gunda gardi and the logic of sarkar is flawed. Since men get away with beating up their wives and leaving them on the street, govt has passed some stupid laws to counter the gundagardi of men and ****ed up judicial system. The only solution is for the court to have access to all bank accounts and properties records. Its so much easier if court can directly get this information from some central database. As for physical violence, women should go to doctor and police ASAP and if they dont then you really cant blame the court.

It's so screwd up desi....most women who end up in the burn units don't even have the support of their parents. The parents come crying after the brutal assault and death with accusations that she was being tortured but these same people can't find it in there heart to help their own daughters get out of the abusive environment when she is alive. In a country where parents expect and often force the daughter in law to stay with them in a joint family...their own daughter finds no place. The law was made draconian because the police would not take the complaints seriously and often the woman was forced to compromise and go back into an even worse environment. They had to plug every possible loophole. Very unfortunate for the people who are victims of abuse of this law .These people at least get their chance with the law. The victim of dowry death don't. Wish they would work towards making it more effective and fair at the same time.

Beetle, just to correct you technically, law that deals with Dowry Death is 304 (b) while major complaints of abuse are against 498(a) which deals with dowry harrassment where harrassment could be anything. There is very little resistance aginst 304 (b) in comparison to 498(a).

Harassment is as much a reality as the abuse of the law.

Suppose one person wants to propose a following law. If a girl makes a guy to believe that she would marry him and under that impression guy spends some amount of his money on that girl. Now because of some circumstances or compulsions, girl fails to marry, guy shoud be allowed to prosecute girl under charges of robbery or loot. All arguments which were put in post #50 would be applicable to such case. So there are no chances of misuse. I would like to know how many are in favour of such law.
:two_thumbs_up: If sex on the pretext of marriage is rape, gifts taken on the pretext of marriage should be robbery. :nice:
:nice: pretty good argument against the "sex on pretext of marriage == rape".

At least for a change, the HC should consider passing judgments on slightly lesser important topics like poverty, hunger, public health, birth control, women's reproductive rights etc, as opposed to spending all day and all night wondering what constitutes a relationship between a man and a women.
