carnish Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 1996 WC ... I got attracted to it during India-Kenya match at Cuttack which I went to see with my Friends Dad and him. I was only 7. I watched the rest of the WC on TV. Was really attracted to the colors of the Jerseys then, esp. The one wore by Holland. Those were good days.
velu Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 1996 WC or west indies tour of india.. Not sure which one I watched it first Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Detonator Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 India whitewashing Aussies in 2010 :D then an awful lot of old matches in youtube
sscomp32 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Same!! I remember I used to hate seeing cricket on tv and wud close the tv down if there was any cricket on:--D. My dad who I think was an average cricket fan but desperately wanted to see that match as it was Indo-pak QF and therefore explained me all the rules during that match so I could let him watch that match on tv:haha:. I remember how I got so serious in that match(my first match) that I went to madir in our house during Pakistani innings n said to god that 'Bhagwan, yeh match jeeta do, gyaaraah rupeyees ka prashad chadhaunga' :cantstop: .... Eventually we won however I didn't give that prasaad... Now I loved that match so much that I myself saw next Indo-srilanka match without my dad as he had some office work n said the same thing to Bhagwan ki yeh match jeeta do, gyarah rupeeka prashad chadhaunga...however India lost and being a kid, I took the blame for not fulfilling my earlier promise and went to temple n chadhofied 11 rupees ... Funny thing is after that Indo-Pak match, my dad never saw a single cricket match and I never missed a single cricket match... As a matter of fact, he hated cricket after that as I didn't focus on my studies us of cricket. :(( :two_thumbs_up: @Bold:- My younger bro used to go and pray to god whenever India lost a wicket in the 1999 World Cup. :cantstop:
Lord Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 India whitewashing Aussies in 2010 :D then an awful lot of old matches in youtube school kid :hehe:
StatsRock Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 First moment of joy in ODI which I could remember was Kirti AZad ( current BJP MP) winning the Delhi ODI at JLN stadium walloping the Pak bowlers in an almost.. Oh shoot, I remember this game: http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1980S/1983-84/PAK_IN_IND/PAK_IND_BFT_21SEP1983 India were 101-7 chasing 198 when Azad walked in, having taking 3-28 in Pak's score of 197-3. He hammered 71* off 40-something balls or so. I remember one of the neighborhood bhaiyyas explaining he hit the ball so far it was travelling to the sun. I was 6 then and believed the sun is so far away you can never reach it. For months later, I used to think that the ball Azad hit was still on its way to the sun! :hysterical:
StatsRock Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Also remember my father taking me to Eden Gardens in 1978 - 79 to watch many matches. Not cricket-related but just wondering....can you share your or your Dad's memories of watching Majid Bashkar, Mohd Habib, Shyam Thapa? I bet you followed soccer those days :winky:
The Outsider Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I guess mine would be Madan Lal going hammer and tongs against Pakistan. I could not recall the exact match, so went on statsguru to search the matches which could have been closest to my memories and came up with these two: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63330.html http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63331.html They were only 10 days apart, so I guess I am in the right ballpark. Probably it was the first one because I vaguely remember us losing the match at the end of the innings. Have some earlier memories of listening to cricket commentaries with my uncle, but can't fit them to a particular match.
maniac Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 91-92 B&H series with Ind-WI-Aus and the WC that followed where my first real real cricket memories,Some of the matches and moments from these tournaments are etched in my head. But I can go as far as the 87 wc and between this and the 92 WC,I have vague memories of Chetan Sharma 100 in a ODI,Aquib Javed 7 wickets vs Ind in Sharjah,Hirwani 16 wk haul,Ind vs Aus wc game where Azhar took 3 wickets,Srikkanth 5 wkts vs NZL,Ind-SA(SA comeback game) where Donald debuted with a bang,Wessels-Cook-Rice,Dave Houghtons knock vs NZL (vaguely remember)
maniac Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Surprisingly I don't seem to recollect any memories of Kapil before the 91 b and H series, despite him being my fav cricketer even prior to that :hmmm:
maniac Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 ^I dont know if this counts and I swear I am not looking this up on Cricinfo.....Didn't he become the highest ODI wicket taker in a Sharjah game in the 90 or 91

Oh yeah, there were several innings where Madan Lal was a fighter :cantstop: The innings you listened to must have been the Karachi Test '82. I recollect listening to the radio when he made 74 against Pak at Bangalore '83 but that was a slow innings, rebuilding from 85-6 with Binny.

I do remember he went past Garner's 146 in ODIs. Fiddling with the dates gave me this: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=wickets;qualmax1=200;qualmin1=100;qualval1=wickets;spanmax1=16+Oct+1988;spanval1=span;template=results;type=bowling So yeah, it was the match against Windies, Oct 16 1988. This wasnt telecast on TV although I guess there was a delayed highlights package on DD.
StatsRock Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 From 87 Reliance cup onwards very vivid memories - Bush great catches contest Saved it up from elsewhere...these were the catchers: Crowe, Arnott, Hooper, Gavaskar, Richards, Wright, Azhar, Mahanama.

Oh......May be it was 200 wickets in ODI....I vaguely remember watching it live...and pretty sure that was Sharjah
