maniac Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Bones....Let me ask you this .....might be a bad analogy ....but if some one retires from their work in any profession....would their retirement party be about people talking how the person's productivity was dropping as compared to his youth or would it be celebrating his entire career's legacy? Stop derailing this thread and go whine on some other thread,I beleive in the last year or so,there have been many such threads on this very forum.
Laaloo Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 The topic is Sachin's retirement. Believe me when I say this, I have mates who said exactly the same thing when he retired, "about bloody time ain't it". There are many tribute threads for him, as have been for many years each time he goes past even a semi landmark. It's a forum, we're free to type what we want provided it doesn't breach forum rules and I haven't. Swear again, I'll put you on ignore. the guy after making 200+ runs came back on the field right after and was seen chasing balls at the boundaries with the same passion. Tendulkar is more than mere numbers. Expecting brain dead pakis like you is too much I guess. Remember Saeed Anwar? needed a runner during that innings of 194. Also during the 2003 WC, where Sachin raped you, he didn't come on the field after batting first.
bones Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Pretty rich for a paki to say after Imran has retired twice' date=' miandad came back for 96 world cup (and boy did he contribute), also their current star keeps taking conditional retirements or sabbaticals.... the truth is our neighbors have no classy men and hence do not get any respect globally, thus the jealousy over tributes for sachin... you will notice talks about kallis, lara and everyone else but it's actually only jealousy[/quote'] Imran Khan, Javed etc were before my time. I didn't follow cricket back then. But if their performances were mediocre and holding out a raft of quality youngsters, then they too were selfish. I can only talk about matters I know, Sachin, Ponting and Lara all retired whilst I understood the game well enough. You're having to resort to petty name calling and racist comments, says more about you than it does about me. The Daily Mail? Lol, are you kidding, one of the most pathetic tabloids in the country, perhaps the world and you take their opinion as being the truth? The average Daily Mail reader doesn't even know that Britain once ruled South Asia. Your analogy is void, because a sportsman's career is not the same as for example an office worker or teacher. If in a company or in a school the results are bad, that teacher or worker is sacked. Sachin's performances were bad for a long time, Ponting for ever longer still and yet they weren't dropped. The thread title isn't "Sachin tributes", it's Sachin to retire after 200th test. Again what does Saeed Anwar have to do with anything here? Saeed Anwar was decent/good batsman, but no one here is saying he's better than Tendulkar, not even close. The comments I made are about Sachin prolonging his career in a selfish manner. Many other players have done, many other sportsmen have done it. Once again, you're resorting to petty insults and foul language, it says more about you than it does about me.

I watched them both and Imran was most certainly mediocre player throughout the world Cup. The Daily Mail? Lol, are you kidding, one of the most pathetic tabloids in the country, perhaps the world and you take their opinion as being the truth? The average Daily Mail reader doesn't even know that Britain once ruled South Asia. And Guardian too.... In case you believe in some serious new reporting.
CSK Fan Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Finally Yes, we will see how all the replacements set the world on fire once he is gone. I don't know why some people are so jobless that day in and out they were crying again and again for him to go, as if their very livelihood and everything they held dear was being snatched when he plays. To this extent that they do not even have the decency to leave such a thread alone and have to post comments like these What exactly did he do to you? Killed your cat? Stole your girl friend. How much dislike does someone need to have in their heart that a player plays for 24 years, have 2 years of indifferent (not the worst mind it) form and these people go day in and out, taking pot-shots at him as and when they can? What kind of people are these? And now he has announced his retirement yet they do not let go of the chance to have that last pot-shot

Please dont get over-emotional. To the bolded part - This is an apt thread where you discuss all aspects(delay etc) of sachin's retirement imo.
jalebi_bhai Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 To be honest where him and Ponting should have retired and all this is hindsight, specially the exact no. like 25, you are coming with. Retiring when you are on top and can contribute more is more selfish. Having fear of getting your personal legacy tarnished is cowardly. Sachin tried his best and contributed for India, as much as he could. Also he might have failed last few series, but I can claim without even watching that his efforts didn't lack anything. On a personal note, pretty slimy of you that in a career of 200 tests, all you are picking on is last few series where he failed. Was he really on top Post-WC? It was a gradual decline with a few flashes of brilliance here and there.....Dravid called it quits after one bad series despite his brilliant performance in England ......would you call him selfish as well?

Dravid had been mediocre for eons before that one series in England and was bad again in Australia series. Can you recall one century which you would like to talk about that Dravid had hit before England tour? You'll have to go really far for that, at least 6-7 years.

RD was never on top of his game after 2007-08 till England tour 2011. But as he didn't retire just after one good series and went to Aus, where we definitely needed him (that's diff thing that he couldn't contribute much), I would say it was a good decision.
Raghav_12 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 112 in the West Indies Tour of 2011.....6-7 years' date=' right?[/quote'] if you think that is the century you would like to talk about when talking about Dravid, go ahead and do that. A century against the attack of Edwards, Rampaul, Sammy and Bishoo, against a lowest rung team baring Bangladesh, you really would like to highlight as part of Dravid's career. There is no denial that Dravid had been poor for some time until that England tour of 2011, where he was really glorious.

Sachin's performances over the last 7 seasons: 2007 9 matches 16 innings 776 runs 55.42 average 2008 13 matches 25 innings 1063 runs 48.31 average 2009 6 matches 9 innings 541 runs 67.62 average 2010 14 matches 23 innings 1562 runs 78.10 average 2011 9 matches 17 innings 756 runs 47.25 average 2012 9 matches 15 innings 357 runs 23.80 average 2013 4 matches 7 innings 192 runs 32.00 average The bit in bold is alarming, though, expected considering his age......... So, if retiring while still being able to contribute close to peak form is considered selfish.......then what would playing on, for nearly two years, when you are no where close to peak form be considered? This slump wasn't even like his early noughties slump.....

Yea, that's the one I'd like to talk about......was a match winning innings while playing with a fairly inexperienced side away from home......
Number Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I don't know how he would know in prior when he will fail . Sachin's performance in Aus was not upto his standards but it wasn't as bad as RD's or Laxman's. Sachin should have retired after England series at home, imo. But I don't think there should be so much hue and cry over one extra series which we anyway won 4-0.

Against Aus in 2010 - 37. He only had 3 good series at home 2 of them vs NZ and one against SL. That's not consistent from his standards at all. PS : My posts may sound a bit detracting on RD but its not like that, I respect him and all the decisions he has made.

Now, one final question if you don't mind me asking, would Sachin's legacy have been any less glittering had he retired on 99 International centuries instead of 100? He had nothing left to achieve after the WC......and for me, the whole 100th 100 hundred fiasco will always be tarnished by the result of the match in which he got it in.......

It's ok man.......we're having a pretty healthy discussion :--D.......besides.....I'm not a Dravid maniac or anything who will get all militant......my favourite cricketer was, is and will always be Sir Viv Richards...... And those stats actually beggar belief as to why Dravid's performances were not scrutinized the way they should've been......maybe they were and I wasn't aware......:dontknow: edit: realized we're derailing the thread here.......back to a relevant SRT topic?
