Austin 3:!6 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Virat is undoubtedly the best ODI batsman for India at the moment and I am sure everyone agrees to that. But the bigger question is, can he replicate his ODI success in the test format as well ,specially in overseas condition? He is not bad in tests and avg above 40 testifies that. But the amount of talent this guy has, he should have done much more. Can he be the perfect replacement at no.4 for Sachin? And what you think Virat lacks (if any) currently in tests?

There will be bit of experimentation going on before settling for somebody. To start with Kohli is the best guy to try out. No.3 spot is what i am more worried about.

vvvslaxman Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 You are worried about pujara ? Oh my bad for some reason i thought he was batting in some other position!
Old guy Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Oh my bad for some reason i thought he was batting in some other position! Haha that is only position in team I am not worried about :cantstop:
vvvslaxman Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Kohli is going to be natural successor to Tendulkar regardless of his indifferent test career so far.
gattaca Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I think he should bat the same way as in ODIs. He goes to shell in test matches. I mean not hit every ball hit the bad ones. KP is best example.
Laaloo Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 He's a perfect replacement for the Sachin of the last two years. As I said in another thread, dil maange moar. Need to see more from Kohli as far as Test Cricket goes before anointing him as the next greatest thing.
Lord Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I would keep him at 5 tbh.at 4 sometimes you come in early and need to see off the moving ball whereas Kohli likes to play his shots.Hes more like Laxman. I think it'd be best if GG comes back at 4 for now.

Here is the stats for both the players in the first 2 years (exactly after 18 tests): Sachin (1989 - 1992) Matches - 18 Runs - 967 HS - 148* Avg - 38.68 Hundreds - 3 Kohli(2011 - 2013) Matches - 18 Runs - 1175 HS - 116 Avg - 41.96 Hundreds - 4 :nice:

I don't go on statsguru no more since I don't care. My thoughts are based on how watch the games. Kohli has played some fine innings on tough pitches but dil maange moar.
vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 only one home test in Sachin's first 18 Tests.toured countries like England' date='Aus,SA.[/quote'] Yup.. Had the toughest start one can hope to have and he was not even 20 in most of the series. He almost made a century at 17 against Hadlee led attack. In one dayers definitely Kohli possibly has one of the best start to career in history.

Only if Sachin had Perreras and Dernbachs during that period.
Old guy Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 LOL. Only if Sachin had Perreras and Dernbachs during that period. even kohli did not in tests
urbestfriend Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Obvious choice is Kohli. He has been around and part of the test team for some time and he needs more time at the crease and deserves #4 position. Rohit/Rahane could be our #5.
Pagalpanti Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Kohli has knack of making starts count, so naturally he'll be a successor to Sachin @ no.4
vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Kohli has knack of making starts count' date=' so naturally he'll be a successor to Sachin @ no.4[/quote'] He is as aggressive as Sachin was at the start of his career. He can be even more aggressive. Also no.5 means. 3 wicket would have already fallen and his attacking instincts will be even more curbed.
jusarrived Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Pujara Rohit Virat This would be my no3 , 4 and 5
