Laaloo Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Ishant is someone who has got a lot of chances. He has neither been economical nor wicket taking. Most importantly, he has shown tremendous inconsistency. Innumerable times he has performed in a couple of matches only to fail for ten more. Why not try someone else ? Because the current captain keeps giving chances and chances to every tom dick and harry players out there hoping to silence their critics once in a blue moon. So he can say, oh we need to back the yengsters. And the next captain of India says this: Kohli, Ishant's Delhi team-mate, also defended him, saying, "I don't think you can drop a player on the basis of two poor matches." Ishant has just two more matches to do something of note before the squad for the last four ODIs is announced. So much DENIAL
vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 So its not about stats' date=' just pick random bowlers and they will get you early wickets by bowling vicious outswingers with new ball on 400 runs tracks, and come back and bowl reversing yorkers at death.[/quote'] If you give enough chances like we gave to Ishant they might end up being far better bowlers than Ishant. Don't forget he has played significant amount of international cricket compared to others. Even though he claims he is leading the attack, he is not even qualified to be a support bowler at this point. That is the reality. Progression of bowlers is indicated by how much the opposition respects you. I don't think any team in the world will be afraid of ishant. Infact some teams even target him.

In ODIs he has an average of 31 and an economy rate of 5.66. How are his stats good or even decent ?
goose Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Ishant Sharma - he is someone sent from up there to bowl utter filth and go back.
maniac Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Please check the stats posed by number and tell me which spearhead around the world has outperformed him??? Why are people so high on shamI.....he has done nothing so far to prove he is better than even vinay.....but I agree vinay has to go.....replace him with unadkat who deserves a go but even he doesn't instill confidence. How come Indian fans who are obsessed with stats and numbers turn a blind eye to this

Ishant Tests - Avg. 38, from 51 tests ODIs - Avg. 31 from 67 ODIs, Economy rate - 5.66. How do these stats save a bowler who lacks control, consistency, bowling to his field, planning, ability to bowl Yorkers and movement !

express bowling Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Talking about odi stats in the last 1 year The biggest problem with a short period statistics of someone like Ishant is that lack of consistency has been a salient feature of his career. Innumerable times he had flattered for a short period only to deceive for a longer period. My main concern with him is that he still lacks control, consistency, ability to bowl to a plan, ability to bowl good yorkers, etc. Aren't these qualities absolutely essential for a good ODI bowler ? He does not even look like he is going to take frequent wickets too or create pressure on the batter. Regarding Md. Shami, he has played only 11 ODIs and stats for such short careers are mostly misleading. He does not look that special and should be replaced if somebody better comes along. But atleast he has got decent control and consistency at fast-medium pace with decent movement.
express bowling Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 ^ Just to add to the above discussion Lack of control and consistency are tolerated in ODIs only when a bowler has great wicket taking ability ( consistently removing top order batsmen during non-slog overs ) or the ability to soften batsmen with some real pace. Even then, not more than one such bowler is desirable in an ODI team. I don't think the Ishant of 2013 would qualify on either count.

Agree with the stats part but here's how it is right- Now our team has done pretty well in the last 6 months in Odi's....Now what do you attribute to the success? Now obviously I am not going to go allout and say our bowling just for arguments sake because even half-a cricket enthuisast knows india's strength lies in it's batting, Our fielding has been brilliant but the matches we have played in this time period were not pattas by any means, even the games we played in India against Pak and Eng had juice in it for the bowlers. Now obviously to be as dominant as we have been,we should have done well in all 3 departments right- Now Ishant's record speaks for itself that he has done real well in this time period. So why would anyone axe him out of the team? Now I agree that in this time period he has been our 3rd best bowler behind Bhuvan and Sir....Now if you consider Sir as an allrounder/Parttimer slot he is technically our 2nd best bowler which leaves 2 slots open,Aswin'ss and Vinay's slot. We dont need to hit a panic mode to replace half our bowling line up yet as we have been playing on Pattas.
maniac Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 To add-Some outrageous hatred towards Ishant(i get it why, because he let people down on his immense potential) makes people hail Shami as some kind of savior-I have seen him and he is pretty mediocre. Right now the 2 guys who can replace him are Yadav(eventhough his ODI performances have been mediocre),he has the proven xfactor and the 2nd guy unfortunately is Unadkat because he has done well in his chances lately and brings in the left-arm option. The 3rd is Mohit...Let 2 of these 3 give killer performances and then definetely I will be the first to say to replace Ishant.
maniac Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 read the bit about how he gets cheap wicket at the death helping his average Srikant Wagh is there.looked quite decent in an A game I saw then there is Suyal.can bowl upto 140ks.but lacks control So lets cut batsman's runs they score from part time bowlers :banghead:
vvvslaxman Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 Last 1 year Ishant Economy rate is 5.52 . That is still pathetic. vs South Africa Economy rate of 9.25, vs Australia 7.87, vs England 5.84 . His best performance is against two pathetic batting sides Pakistan, West Indies lol Seriously this joker should never be brought back into the side until he knows how to bowl yorkers, bouncers, slow balls, consistent line and length.. oh wait those are major things you need in one dayers. He has none of it. This joker should be kept as far away as possible from ODI side. He gets picked on by everybody for nothing.
rkt.india Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Do we have any left hand seamer besides Unadkat? anyone from under 19? Pawan Suyal from Delhi. The quickest left arm pacer in India. Chama Millind from current U19 team but it is too early for him.
saneindian Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Yaar log ye Suyal Suyal to kehte rahte hain, but the guy has not even played a full season of domestic cricket. Keeps breaking down after 2-3 matches. Doesn't look ready for international cricket at all unless he works on his fitness. have watched him from the stands in Delhi's Ranji matches, he's a terrible fielder and will get thoroughly exposed in ODIs. Yes, he's got a bit of pace and can bowl at around 136-137 kph with occasionally hitting 140+ but is that all you need to play international cricket?

He was consistently hitting 139-140 in recent challenger trophy match without even being stretched. Regarding fitness, he could not play 4-day games, might lack fitness for that though he looked really fit in Challengers. There is no harm looking at him for India A side at the moment.
saneindian Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 India A is fine but as I said to me he doesn't look ready for international cricket. And for all his pace in Challenger Trophy, he did not pick a single wicket. Just for pace alone, he will find it difficult to move to the higher levels. The upcoming season is a great opportunity for bowlers like him, Rahul Shukla . Good haul of wickets will get them a spot in the A squad.
