Just my thoughts. He is a bad bad bowler. Plus beyond dumb. So, he can't improve. Why is he being chosen ? Not everybody is cut out for international cricket. If they are being chosen then it is the fault of the selectors and the team management.

Looked at his FC record.. Outside test cricket, he averages 22-23 in Ranji, Duleep and India A matches lol. Most likely will go back to domestic cricket, pick truck loads of wickets and comeback to the side soon IF he is indeed dropped.

He did well in domestic cricket back when he was the bowler who did well in Test and ODI cricket! He is no longer that bowler!

its illogical to look at "performing in domestics" alone. the issues has to be addressed. for example its more important to look if the player has progressed from current level to next level in two years. there is no use if he has tons of runs in domestics but without increasing his previous level. dhawan was a case who improved his level to " permanent selection" this year after eyars of struggle.that's the kind of improvement we are looking for. its improvement in skill levels,mental levels ,experience. otherwise what use is the data for? that's why ishant's stats last year didn't enthuse me.i could see he was the not the promising talent I saw in 2008.

Naah even when he was struggling big time a couple of years back, played in a Irani Trophy match and bowled brilliantly. I have no doubt he will go bakc and pick wickets again. For his own sake, he should be asked to play at least an entire season, perhaps two of them before the next comeback.

To be fair, he has bowled well in Champions Trophy and WI tri series. You can check the stats but he will never be a decent bowler on pitches which are flat because he doesnt have discipline over line and length and doesn't have intelligence to outthink the batsman. He is basically cannon fodder on flat tracks but could be decent on his day if pitch has some juice. In any case, its important that they move on and find some other bowler. I don't want to see him play in the World Cup where he could potentially cost us important games.

That is why I have been constantly saying that domestic records cannot be the sole criterion for selection. The way a player is playing and the type of player he is - must be cnsidered first and then choose the performers among the correct type of players. Currently, Ishant is bowling 130 to 137 without much movement, bounce, objective, control, consistency or plan. Such type of pacers don't suceed in international cricket and should not be picked based on ordinarily good performance.

You can check the stats.[/quote'] I was not too impressed because I could see the quality he promised initially is not there. he was in relatively better rhythm then, though issues were there. his form has dipped even further at this time. talent is a permanent quality.that I have seen in him. he has troubled ponting.he knocked down hussy at a crucial time in chandigarh. his bowling in the 2008 ipl was at times top notch.finally jayasuriya (who has thrashed plenty of indian bowlers except srinath) got his stump cartwheeling. lot of players have changed over the course of their careers. he is the best one to answer that. I don't give up on players unless they lack talent itself., intelligence, I don't think we are in the best position. unless I am close within range, I cannot say how he thinks.

^^ I wish it was so easy. Remember not so long ago the bowling attack had Zaheer, Nehra, Sreesanth, Munaf and Pathan as the key pacers. In about 18-20 months, we have a completely new bowling attack which has been doing well for last 10-12 months. No one would have known that the same bowling attack which was doing so well in CT in Eng would be struggling this much a couple of months later. The argument that can given as to why they are still sticking with Ishant is that he can still hit the 86-87 mph mark when in good rhythm, plus the experience factor. Just that he's been absolutely horrible when bowling bad and hasnt picked wickets. A few dropped catches havent helped his confidence either. Same with Vinay, hasnt got much movement with the new ball, bowled without control and has been terrible with the old ball. Obviously for 4 matches in row, the current bunch have failed now so a change is needed. For the sake of the new bowlers who'll come in, I hope the pitches in the remaining matches are a bit more bowler friendly.
