vvvslaxman Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Here is a baby plant telling the veggies to lay off before what i suppose is its eventual murder :((. quite unbelievable how delusional and all knowing some people are to insist it is ok to kill such beings. Actually i read an article about similar topic how human beings are ignorant when they say plants don't have lives. Eye opening
randomGuy Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 btw, plants are non-vegetarians. They eat sunlight from top and feed on dead/decaying matter like dead insects, worms and borrowing moles from bottom. Don't think ordinary plants can be called Carnivorous. But there are plants which are actually carnivorous.

beetle Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 They can't feel pain. They can't react to danger' date=' cannot hit back, cannot run away. They just stand there helplessly but [b']you people have to cut them up and eat them and their colorful babies. :(( What do you eat?:hmmm:
coffee_rules Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 While what you are suggesting maybe accurate in terms of how human beings perceive pain, I am not too sure that can be used as a valid argument to claim that a life form does not feel pain. Obviously plants do not have the sense organs that most animal life forms do but does that mean we dismiss every perception of emotion they may have. Plants also emote - they respond better and grow healthier in environments that are more conducive to them. Similarly they die quicker when they are surrounded by pollution. I guess the problem we are facing with is that of understanding perceptive qualities of life forms that do not agree with what we ourselves experience. Just like in the case of plants we are not sure about some animals too, for ex jelly fish, sponges, etc. In any case it is a very interesting topic to intellectualize upon. On a personal level I find it difficult to accept that a life form does not emote. I'd think it is more likely that we do not understand how a particular life form emotes rather than the life form not having the ability to emote. You, a tree-hugger? As organic life-forms, we can only feed on organic stuff, We cannot eat a hat or a boot. To feel pain, scientists have proven that it should have a nervous system. Plants are the earliest life-forms which later evolved as animals , developed a nervous system to survive better. Plants only had a way of reproducing (pollination) to survive as species. No pain, no gain.

These "animals" gave been feeding on small archea type living things, which later formed a saperate branch of abiogenesis, that later became plants. Technically, plants evolved from animals. The first flowers and fruits evolved only during the time of dinosaurs. Some botanists believe that plants have conciousness and they have emotions, but on a much much slower rate. For eg, the red flowers are to attract birds and yellow flowers is for insects. Plants somehow figured out that, red attracts birds eyes and yellow for insects andd plants adopted it inorder to pollinate. A professor used to tell a lot of things like this I just started on evolution paper, and its a big headache. :((

I thought because some plants are carnivorous and eat small insects/animals, plants evolved into animals. Obviously evolution taught in schools has evolved as well!

Obviously evolution taught in schools has evolved as well![/quote'] didnt happen in a day but in millions of years. dolphins and killer whales are evolved from a shrews, but killer whales hunt dolphins. Evolution isnt a linear but its in a very zigzag path. :agree: I remember another interesting thing on fruits. The plants evolved to produce fruits so that animals would eat it and poop the seeds far away, so that a new plant will grow. How does the plants know that animals will eat the fruit? plants r bribing animals inorder to ensure a safe travel for seeds.
Vijay.Sharma Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 You' date=' a tree-hugger?[/quote']No, I am not.
hhunaeh Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 What do you eat?:hmmm: I eat whatever i find tasty. "You people" refers to the guiltless vegetarians.
CSK Fan Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Absolutely nothing wrong in people being vegetarians. It's a lifestyle choice brought on because of customs, religions, family and very rarely choice. But what I don't like is some vegetarians pretending they are morally superior to others because of their choice. As we learn more and more about food and life, the more this claim seems dubious
FischerTal Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 funnily enough, this thread was started by a non-veggie :hysterical:

[b']But what I don't like is some vegetarians pretending they are morally superior to others because of their choice. As we learn more and more about food and life, the more this claim seems dubious Touche! People need to realize that being vega/vegetarian is a choice that THEY have made. It is NOT binding on others to ensure their holy grail of vegetarianistan is NOT broken. A typical conversation with some great holier than thou colleagues, some of my students and friends X - I don't want to have food in a plate which served non-veg food. Dexter - Absolutely, I don't want to have food in a plat which served veg foods either X - But but but but .... you are non-veg!!!! Dexter - So? X - You can have food from veg food served plates Dexter - Why the double standards? Slowly, they realize the crux of the argument. The problem is this kind of thinking is institutionalized in schools, universities, colleges etc. and it carries on in life. The irrational demands based on personal choices are met and they turn into defacto standard.
Detonator Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 ^ True that. Some of the common traits of vegetarians i ve noticed. 1. Most of the time they tell people that they're a vegetarian. 2. Mostly add milk products like paneer, ghee, cheese in almost everything. 3. Some compare non-veg ppl to animals. 4. Secretly likes to eat meat. 5. A few girls I know have this diet full of soya. I donno how that's healthy. Worst thing is they r gonna be doctors. 6. They claim veg dishes tastes a lot better than non-veg. 7. Some say it's disgusting to eat meat. they give this stupid facial expression like a squick. esp girls do that a lot. 8. They have a habit of reading content labels on food items. 9. They form a group and go to a saperate table. A lot of times I have been forced to go to "high class pure veg" hotels, if this veg group comes to a treat or something. :((

I was a non vegetarian till I was abt 12, became a vegetarian for the reason mentioned in earlier posts. I do believe its a better way to go(which is why I became vegetarian) but I do not think I am 'superior' to non-vegetarians. While I would like people to become vegetarians, I do not preach or force them, do not even tell them unless there's an ongoing discussion on this topic.

Laaloo Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 For health reasons i might turn into vegetarian .. but not now. even vegetarian food is not healthy if you are gulping 2 kgs of paneer once a week with all the masalas and stuff.
