Why is it okay to eat a goat, chicken, fish but not cat, dog, dolphin?

LOL@the defensive meat eaters. Yes plants do have life, they may even feel the pain, but there is no doubt that animals do feel the pain of confined lots and slaughter. That said, most vegetarians just want to be left alone to have their choice of food instead of being ridiculed for not eating meat. I have never seen vegetarians ask meat eaters what type of meat they eat, do they eat fish, is it just chicken or whatever. However meat eaters always want to know, if someone has always been a vegetarian, if their parents would object if they ate meat, if it is a religious thing or whatever.

The very first question from meat eaters to veggies - what if you are stranded in a deserted place and you have to eat meat to survive, what will you do? WTF, is that the reason why meat eaters practice hogging meat - to be prepared well in case of such calamity?

My mom is a vegetarian.. she became a veg when she was 10. Yet she would make mutton biriyani for us. None of us in our home eat fish except me. My dad hates fish. We never made fun of others. Food choices should not be used as a tool to judge people. That is what happening now in these veg vs non veg debates. That is where tempers flare.

Pretty much same at my place. Apart from me, no one eats beef and neither of us question our choice of food.

But this ! Its hilarious.

It takes guts to do that. :hatsoff:

That's the whole point. Personally, I have been judged because I am a non-veg. Shee, thoo etc. what not I have been called!

Staunch veggie , now eat anything except sea food like lobster, prawn , shrimp. Can eat fish though. It has to be fried or mashed like tuna salad.

A typical conversation with some great holier than thou colleagues, some of my students and friends X - I don't want to have food in a plate which served non-veg food. Dexter - Absolutely, I don't want to have food in a plat which served veg foods either X - But but but but .... you are non-veg!!!! Dexter - So? X - You can have food from veg food served plates Dexter - Why the double standards?
:whack: Thats how you spoke to her? No wonder she is an eX. :P PS: Actually, there isn't any double standards. Non Vegetarians can and do eat vegetarian food also. So would they be bothered by a plate which served veg food earlier, given that they too are not averse to having veg food. Lemme try to put this in mathspeak, the de-facto language of this forum. Non Vegetarians and Vegetarians are not mutually exclusive groups. Vegetarians are a subset of Non vegetarians. There you go. :P PPS: You should read 'The critique of pure reason' if you already haven't. It was way too heavy duty for me. Couldn't even last 20 pages, but I've a feeling you will enjoy the book. And I say this in a complimentary tone.

same pinch :D my mom makes non-veg good using rubber surgical gloves and sometimes non-woven mask. Even she forces the maid to use it to make sureshe doesn't touch vegetables after handling meat. It's kinda scary when I enter kitchen. :((

Ridiculed for not eating meat? Thats coz you probably grew up and reside in the barbaric, backward and barely civilized US of A. Most people here are very laissez faire wrt to food. And people tend to be accommodating. If I am with people who are strictly vegetarian, I would never order for non vegetarian food. Maybe its a cultural difference. And what is wrong with asking people about the reason for their preferences? That is just table talk. People could be genuinely interested.
