Saving up this money won't solve poverty in a day. Instead it will go into politicians' pockets. Investment in science and technology should be a top priority and vital for growth of our country and will lead to progress in many ways. The biggest difference between US, Japan, Europe and other developing countries has been in the advancement and implementation of science and technology.

Bollywood producers spend it on elaborate sets and star fees, ISRO spends it on a mission to Mars. Failure or success and its financial consequences are their's. What do we have to lose if it goes tits up? Your fear or doubts serve no purpose but to call into question the competence and your belief in the abilites of the people involved. When this is one thing we Indians should be kicking ass at.

yoda Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Great step, but missions to Mars cannot be deemed successful till the probe actually starts orbiting Mars. An European space agency probe/satellite went totally missing once it reached Mars' vicinity around the same time when Pathfinder landed. It is a long journey and wishing ISRO all the best to keep this mission on track!

"This view point sets me apart from the 2.9 billion other FB users, hence I must say it" This has made the news even in most foreign news channels. Maybe we should watch how the Americans and the Chinese media and experts react to this. All said and done, I wish this project achieves its stated goal(s). Pretty proud of this attempt. Ram Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Is it just me or did Chandrayaan seemed to garner a lot more world-wide attention than Mangalyaan has been able to manage, even though the former is probably a bigger technological challenge than the latter? Either ways, I am not popping the champagne yet. Let the mission succeed fully. Irrespective, my deepest respects to the folks at ISRO. They put their heart and soul into what they do. They work for sh!tty salaries, archaic equipment and have to contend with a hopeless burecracy that takes forever to make decisions, but their technological feats manage to rival the best space agencies in the world. It is not super-computers and advanced material labs that is driving this success, but pure human spirit and pride in what they do. Hats off people! :isalute:
