i think we need to understand that every captain will have his favourites. Thats just how it is. I just want Dhoni to come clean on where he stands with Rahane. If he does not believe in him, make it clear to him why he does not believe in him. What he needs to do. Its the same with another mumbai player Nayar. 3 ODIs in the Windies face i think 1 ball remained not out and that was the end of his international outting. Now if Dhoni did not believe in him then dont pick him. We will know exactly what MSD thinks of Rahane after Sachin retires. If he is given a long run in the side then fair to say MSD does believe in him but maybe wants him batting at 4 in a spot in which he believes he is suited. If Rahane does not get a fair chance then clearly MSD does not believe in Rahane.

Speaking specifically of Rahane, he is somebody who needs to be backed. Thats just how it is. Look at his performance for the Royals. Heavily backed by Dravid and he has blossomed there. At mumbai Indians he was not backed and retuned some poor numbers and same at Royals under Warne. If Dhoni brings him in and out of the team then its just not going to work. He needs to be given a guaranteed 10 innings for example. No threat to his place.

Has scored runs in IPL and CLT20 but has been having quieter FC seasons and A tours Important to point out here Rahane averages 33 for India A in 10 matches. And has scored just 2 FC 100s in the last 2 years across 16 FC matches. If they didn't rate him he wouldn't have made his debut despite Raina being in the squad. has been picked for nearly every India A squad when available. Couldn't quite do well well on his debut but needs to be ready for SA tests. Which is why releasing him to play for Mumbai is important.

Its been a huge factor. Cannot be dismissed as simply being a side factor. I think even in the tests v South africa A Raina went ahead of him. More than anything Rahane needs to keep calm and pay Shard Pawar a visit. He will playing for India on a regular basis in no time. Better to have a powerful godfather than fight alone

On the one hand I am extremely elated that Rohit Sharma got his chance in Test matches, I am equally disappointed that it had to be at the cost of Ajinkya Rahane who was given all of one Test match after waiting in the wings for some 20 odd Tests. Mr Dhoni keeps talking about giving the long rope to players like Ishant and Raina when they aren't doing well. Well, Mr Dhoni, what happened to that long rope?
