I was more crazy about Gavaskar not because I think he was a better batsman. I have enjoyed SRT more, but I was more tied to cricket in the 80s. After Gavaskar retired, I did not follow cricket closely for almost 15 years (also did not help that I came to the US in late 1990). Similar thing would happen now, I am afraid. I just do not feel the urge to follow it closely. I guess I will not be able to get over the fact that he could go out on a high like Sunny but languished for 2+ years instead going out on a low. It will take a lot of time for that feeling to go away.

get over it. Sachin made his name in the 90s. No one cares what happened the last two years.

Moment to celebrate grand end of a great career. Don't care how many runs he scores. Even two ducks will not have an iota of an impact on the stature of the great man.

Indeed this is moment for Indian fans to celebrate and cherish all the great moments Sachin gave to them. The sheer amount love and passion for cricket Sachin brings among Indians is unmatchable even among other cricket crazed fans of Pakistan and Bangladesh. I don't think Sachin tarnished his image by hanging on too long. All great players last years have been less productive in terms of performance but Sachin did missed the opportunity of retiring at peak in 2011.

There were times in last 1 or 2 years when I thought why hasn't he retired. I felt bad when he was failing. I wished he had retired before. But now I feel very sad. Never thought I would feel so bad. But I am not gonna cry :--D

I have seen him bat every time live at Eden Gardens from the late 70s (when I was a little kid) to when he retired....ODIs and tests!!

i dont know. it seems unnatural, especially for a sporting event. I would only if a family member passes away.

well yes, i meant to say family member thats close to you. naturally, you wont cry for some family member you didnt know. As far as Sachin is concerned, i respect him and miss him, but i guess showing those sort of emotions for someone you never met or interacted with, or share a special bond with personally is quite unnatural. Again, this is my thinking, not forcing it on you
