Have we handled the transition better?

I know we got our clock cleaned in England and Australia. But since then bar one series loss against England we have been doing okay right? Compared to West Indies who hit absolute rock bottom and still stay there and Australia who has hit multiple new lows since their greats retired. They still continue hitting new lows. Now if you look at the line up they look ready to carry the legacy for next several years.

Yes. This was inevitable. Thing is with our population we should be the best team but thing is we did not have the infrastructure or capital to refine the abundance of raw materials (potential players) we had. No that there's a bit of money around we are getting in new and new good players very fast. By 2030, when the Indian economy will have increased further I expect India to have become like USA in basketball.

True.. Huge boots to fill.. Spinners boots atleast at home filled comfortably by Ashwin/Ojha/Jadeja. Seamers if not on par with Zak they are no pushovers either. Apart from Vijay and Dhoni i have some hope from some other batsmen. Let us seei.

Regardless of how they perform in coming tours, I have to say that we have handled it the best. Usually teams end up losing in both formats and have some really poor results. It happend to Australia, South Africa everyone, but India have already shown how great they are in ODI'S and with time they will get beter in test. I think we have handled the transition the best.

as far as test match is concerned its time to sit back and relax.No need to jump the gun at any player at this point of time .Our test team is pretty young and it will take sometime for everything to fall place .

It could have been even better had we not wasted time on Yuvraj/Raina and got a proper no.6.would have had some experience by now

Transition should have been done before oz tour. Tour of england fair enough with old gurad but was clear after that needed change. If new gen had played in oz tour and got that experience undeer their belt. Maybe we could be heading to SA tour with much more ready team

Yep. Their first Test is probably their biggest. We might lose badly but they need to be backed. The actual Test lies in the NZ series. SA series is where we start off with our next gen and if the results are bad, we shouldn't write them off as of yet.

^Totally... Oz tour may not have been better but at least as you said the younger guys would have had the experience of an Aus tour. The changes have been forced by results and also retirements and injuries.. poorly handled transition. I think that Eng tour can be chalked down to poor preparation almost as much as an ageing team, after that something should have been done about it. We played WI at home in Nov 2011- THAT was ideal preparation for bed in a few youngsters right before we went to Aus, instead the oldies filled their boots and it was a Wasted opportunity.

Sums it up. Our planning was really bad and eventually we came to the point of no return after the 8-0 debacle under Dhoni's captaincy. We simply had to make changes. That said, credit to Sandeep Patil for being firm in kicking out Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj (from Tests), Harbhajan and Zaheer (though I think Zaheer should be back if he can sustain his fitness - even at his old age he's an awful lot better than Ishant). As for how well we have transitioned, all will be clearer after the SA/NZ tours. SA we are going to lose but we need to some evidence of the youngsters showing fight. NZ is a tour we should at least draw.

I am just comparing Indai with Australia and West Indies who all of a sudden became of a joke of a team for quiet a long period. Atleast Australia did have their moments in between. West Indies. India had 2 horrendous series. Now we back to being 2nd ranked test side.

Pakistan too. They fell a level below with retirement of two W's, Anwar etc and then another level below after 2007 WC with retirements of Inzi,Youhana etc

Aussies also pretty much beat up everybody at home except Proteas which was a very close series. Indians still have not toured anywhere and when facing a better team England @ home they still lost. Odis also other than CT they have not been that great away from home. But I feel Indian young guys will be ok unlike Aussies or West Indies teams in 1990s they don't have to live up to that scary expectations of being invincible. They look far better than their predecessors @ home as a team so far.Overseas they should be be ok winning odd test here and there should not be that tough. Hope they don't trumpet it like Ganguly who says and acts as if he was winning series every where.

Australia suffered heavy loss to England. They lost to New zealand as well.. managed to draw the series.
