Austin 3:!6 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Anyone missing Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer & Bhajji in the ODI team. Their experience could have played a part on the tough tour like this. I have no doubt we will lose all the matches in this series. Last time when we lost that series against Pakistan, seniors were blamed and axed. And they fill the team with Srini's CSK boys. Who is going to get axe now??
ThePhenomenal1 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 This team will get better and they are already one of the best fielding sides ever. All the names you mentioned were pretty much liabilities on the field or average. But one thing this new team needs to show which the legends you mentioned did, is the ability to fight back when the going gets tough. Apply and perform, get the team out of trouble and put them in a great position, i.e Gambhir.

Normally a young player learns from seniors & the transition should be gradual. You don't remove all veterans together for fresh legs. That might work in India but not overseas. Check the SA team for example. They still play Kallis, Smith etc in ODI's. They surely have youngsters but they are not in a rush.
vvvslaxman Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Rohit Sharma took so many years to evolve despite spending significant amount of time with seniors. He still has not proved much .
wanted_desi Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I am kind of missing Sreesanth in SA. Just him.
yoda Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 And they fill the team with Srini's CSK boys. Who is going to get axe now?? What happened to the non-CSK Maharathis named Kohli and Rohit?
Cricketics Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 We never won a series in South Africa with seniors either. So I am not missing them yet. I will probably miss them in test. I hope I don't but eventually may be once in a while. We got thrashes 4-0 not very long again during one of our last tour to south africa, and then we got beaten 3-2 against South Africa right before world cup. This young team hasn't done much wrong in ODI'S yet.
tweaker Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 India should have tried some new oplayers in the WI series.
puneet28 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Rather than seniors, I miss a sensible captain who has brain to use his fast bowler instead of Raina or Kohli. Dhoni is just hit or miss captain. He used Raina against WI, he took 3wkts and thinking now he would be handy in SA too.
zaqw222222 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I am not missing them. Time for the new guard to step up
Deleted_User_1 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Seniors or no seniors, the Indian team has not done much overseas! This is going to be worse, because these guys do not know how to cope with it.
CSK Fan Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Well we did draw series in SA and Aus with seniors. Point was, they still scored runs even if bowling remained sad
Austin 3:!6 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Well we did draw series in SA and Aus with seniors. Point was' date=' they still scored runs even if bowling remained sad[/quote'] This. You would not have seen this kind of hopeless submission with seniors in the side.

The main ones - SRT, Ganguly, RD, VVS and Kumble retired. Sehwag - in current potbelly :giggle: Gambhir - yes we may miss him ZK - he is in Test squad Bhajji - his darts will do nothing in SA
saneindian Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Unfair on these young guys. You make them play at home non stop and then give then 3-4 days to adjust to the bounce in SA, play an international series without any practice matches? BTW when the 'seniors' were young we travelled to SA in 1996 and Aus in 1999. What happened on those tours?

tweaker Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 No, Iam not missing seniors.Instead of winning with seniors ,I will like to experiment with uncapped players like Samson.Aparajit,Suyal,Bumrah,Jivanjot,Shukla,Saurabh Tiwary etc
saneindian Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Our top order struggled in Champions Trophy warm up matches as well. But after spending enough time in England, they all found their form. Give these guys enough time to adjust before castigating them.
