just needed the self belief he belongs here and he can bat in aus/sa...this innings would be a great morale booster.. does not mean that bowlers can't identify further weaknesses...they will ...but a huge steep taken today

If we show some more discipline this batting line up that we've got right now which is inexperienced but immensely talented can blossom into a fantastic one both in sc & outside sc.We should stick to this line up except Vijay, though he'll get more chances based on his performance against Aus at home.Problem is we don't have anyone except Gambhir right now to replace him.
in spite of Dhawan looking completely clueless during his time in the middle and throwing it away without a fight, Vijay is the only person you would like to be dropped from the team?

After seeing , English players peeing in their pants even on flat pitch like Adelaide oval against fast bowling we have to appreciate a guy like Rahane who always looked to get behind the line.

Dhawan has to stop trying to pull and hook every ball instinctively. Be a lot more selective with playing short deliveries and he will be fine. He is solid around outside off and generally plays straight. Can play pace and spin with ease and can play aggressively if needed. He is a good opener.

Viru is much tighter than lot of us think.

by that logic we should get Yuvraj back for Rahane,as if he settles down,he can murder attacks too.never mind he won't Dhawan was terrible today.had 2-3 reprieves before getting out too

Dhawan is not dependable, atleast not in overseas. IMO, he should not be in tests unless he really works hard in his temparament. With his temparament and technique, he won't survive SA, Eng, Aus pitches..

He plundered runs in Champions Trophy in England. He just needs to work on that hook and pull shot and he will be do fine.

Today's shot was more to do with his ego. And he never pays any heed to the fielders around him while slogging. Plenty of such occasions.

He's played a grand total of one overseas test innings!! Surely not a large enough sample to make judgments

Looks like he is not going to change his game. while i understand that, i think it is not too much to ask him to cut out the one shot that most certainly will bring his downfall.

The only reason he played that hook had nothing to do with his ego. His defense is really poor against short pitched bowling. He tried to defend of the back foot and popped the ball twice in the vacant short leg region and once towards gully. When SA put in a short leg he had no confidence defending the ball again as he knew that he is going to pop one soon, so he resorted to pull and hook. He isn't a great player of that either and not especially against bowlers bowling in excess of 140. He needs to find a way to play short pitched stuff otherwise the bowlers are going to target him with leg gully and short leg fielders.

Agree. I am a bit worried about his judgement though. The way he has choosen to play in SAF is a bit strange.

Champions trophy pitches were not typical test match pitches so not the right measurement..

Check his Chu* giri in ODIs... In 2nd ODI, he attacked Steyn on very second ball he faced.. That's not the right temparament even for ODI standard .. so forget about Tests.. Plus, his technique is too weak for Tests.. We dont want another veeru in making.. Keep Dhawan in sub-continent tests but not in UK, Aus or SA..

Exactly... that's what I was referring to.. If he can't keep his temperament/ego in check then dont bother to pick him.
