He never was successful in Aus,I think perth spell might have been his best bowling in Aus.He would have done well in sydney.But its decision to retire and give others a chance.I think he is pretty light hearted guy.good luck to him.

Surprising..he was a fierce competitor. I thought he was gonna play couple of years. He is lot younger than saeed ajmal. Should have played 2 more years.

Like I said sometimes mentally you just can't do it anymore and injuries really play an impact like his elbow has. If you can't give 100% time, no point playing.

This is the type of fallout i was expecting from our seniors when we got shamed 0-8 on the last 2 overseas tours... Instead, our legends kept guys like pujara out of the side for whatever reason. Instead of calling swann out for retiring at this time it would be better to respect his achievement as one of the best spinners over the past 6-7 years and acknowledge that he did the right thing.... I remember so many comments on here during our 0-8 drubbing asking for senior players to quit/retire/be dropped etc.... So not sure why the hypocrisy when someone actually does that? I think England's attack is going to take a big hit as he provided them the type of variety that I don't remember England having since I started watching cricket... they mostly had bits n pieces spinners until Swann made his mark on a consistent basis.... Good luck to him and congratulations on a very good test career.

On the other hand, i feel that decision to retire from international cricket for an English/Aussie player is a lot easier than the decision to retire from ALL cricket for a subcontinental player. The English/Aussie player still manages to get 40-60K a year in domestic cricket, enough for an upper-middle class living in the western world, giving them the chance to plot a course for their post cricket careers. for subcontinentals, it is literally a 'karorpati to zero' income differential and its a lot harder decision to make IMO.
