fineleg Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 We can endlessly debate, discuss, argue and explain team composition for Durban. We can debate till the mules come home. No use. I can bet you at toss- he will say "we are going in with the same 11". He wont change the playing 11 that easily.
bulbul Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 if it happens as you said you can continue beating mules....ask Seeni he will send you mules!
fineleg Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 if it happens as you said you can continue beating mules....ask Seeni he will send you mules! I am worried too. Esp. since ZK bowled 60 overs and match starts in 2 more days at Durban, there is a very high chance ZK will have a hamstring pull or backstrain or whatever in the middle of Durban Test. We need one more pacer to cover for ZK injury scare. But I think we will play same 11. Huge risk. The minute ZK injured middle of the Test, and we dont have a backup extra pacer, then we can give SA a walk-over and fly back home. Otherwise, not only will the Test be gone, we will end up overworking Shami too.

If you dont play Zak, might as well give up the match because he is sort of a bowling captain on the field and dictates the fielding positions and the plans which other bowlers have to execute and where they should bowl to different batsmen. Do you think Dhoni has any great knowledge about bowling ? Do you think Ishant, Shami, Umesh know the first thing about setting up test batsmen and bowling them out ? Our bowling lineup will be completely lost without Zak on the field.
vvvslaxman Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Zak is a must. Sorry guys. his presence is vital more than his wickets. I made peace with myself even before the test he may not take many wickets immediately after his return. Even in Ranji he was not really running through sides. 5 wickets ia decent return. in the 2nd innings even in the afternoon session he got few balls jump out of the track ball landed in no man's land. It is to his credit he bowled that many overs.
fineleg Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 ^ Naresh, I am not saying drop ZK, but add one additional pacer to reduce his workload (and as backup if injury flares up for ZK) or with so much workload, he will pull up in middle of the match. Anyway - MSD - "we retain the same 11"
vvvslaxman Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 ^ Naresh' date=' I am not saying drop ZK, but add additional pacer to reduce his workload or he will pull up in middle of the match.[/quote'] Yes.. that is not in our control. Hammie pull. Even Steyn was holding his hammie. It is tugh to bowl that many overs. India's biggest problem is not a single batsman is a decent part timer. With Ashwin not going well it is tough for bowlers.
veer Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 this is getting very irritating fineleg to read your threads... Were you more mad when we won the World Cup or when MSD hit that winning six??

Anyway - MSD - "we retain the same 11" Why do you think having another pacer will reduce his workload, unless you are talking about picking 5 bowlers and dropping Rahane or Rohit ? 4 seamers would still mean Zaheer has to bowl same number of overs, in fact his workload may increase and may have to bowl even more as a seamer usually bowls less overs than a spinner. For instance, Ashwin bowled 32 overs in 2nd innings and a seamer like Umesh would have been stretched to bowl 25 overs at the most.

King Tendulkar Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Zak will play. And he will be fine. Enough time to recover
maniac Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I would go with Bhuvan than Yadav if we plan on a 4 man pace attack......On a green track a tail of Zak,Yadav,Ishant, shami to add Dhoni is a recipe for diaster. Bhuvan will do as well as Yadav on favorable conditions.
Lord Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 it'll be right decision too.gotta back the team for a while

Bhuvan will do as well as Yadav on favorable conditions. I disagree, our batsman have to score and the tail can chip in. We saw what zak could do and if the rest hold up and add even 20 runs, it counts. We need to bowl them out. Bhuvan is not going to be as effective. All the pacers are hit the deck type, even philander. We came close 1st test, just need to add jadeja or yadav for ashwin and get those wickets.

Pagalpanti Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Will depend on the pitch. AB gave indication pitch might be greenish than usual. Pretty sure we'll go in with 4 pacers if thats the case, if its typical Durban track, Same XI would be an obvious choice. They did well except for 1 innings.
zep1706 Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 How I wish we had an allrounder who would bowl medium pace. Even one like Irfan Pathan could have been useful in these conditions.
Zap_Brannigan Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Play Yadav and jadeja instead of Ashwin and Rohit sharma/Rahane.
