We always miss players who are not in the XI. :giggle:

Still ended with at least 1 wicket. Had Ashwin done even that' date=' we would have been in better winning position.[/quote'] Actually we needed Zaheer to pick a couple of wickets on day five and we would have won- all he managed was the fluke wicket of Kallis after giving away 135 runs. No spinner has done well at the Wanderers recently, and historically, very few spinners average less than 40 there.

thank goodness Ashwin is not playing. or else Saffers would have been 350 for 1 by now. Jadeja has brought some respectibility to the current indian bowling

One of the fastest to reach 100 wickets in the history of game, 25 years of age, only Shami was better than him before the match and even he was very inexperienced. Zak was returning from long injury and Ishant has always been unreliable. While no spinner has done well at Wanderers, this was also first time in 80 years of Indian cricket when Indian spinners didn't pick any wicket.

If that's useless, then just watch the match to see how ineffective he was during the match. India team was reduced to 3 bowlers. Did he even get a chance even to appeal during whole match? Did he manage to beat the bat? Spinners have struggeled on unhelpful tracks, but you expect better for your best spinner.

Ajmal ,Ashwin,Tahir all of them were ineffective at the Wanderers.

If there was a chance to appeal many times, he would have got a wicket or two. South Africans were scoring freely against Ajmal here when they played last time - at a run rate of 4+ per over and he did not look like taking a wicket either. At least Ashwin checked the flow of runs. Not saying he did very well in the match, he could have done better - but SA batsmen were also least interested in attacking him and a very defensive field was set up for Ashwin. India should have gone with four seamers at Wanderers, and should have gone with two spinners at Kingsmead - some good opportunities to win have been squandered.
