I think Rohit and Dhawan will be given a longer rope, at least till England series. But need some changes in seam bowling department. Might not be a bad idea for Karthik to play as the wicket keeper batsman and let Dhoni focus on ODIs. He has good technique, has opened in tests and did well and could do a good job as a lower order batsman with the second new ball. Dhoni is going nowhere as a test batsmen with his prods and pushes outside the off stump when the ball moves around in SA, Eng, NZ, Aus.

Are you kidding me ? He is struggling in FC on home pitches, how is he going to survive in tests in NZ, Eng ? What made him great was his hand-eye coordination and his reflexes have slowed down. He will just play poor shots and get out now, like he did before he was dropped.

Should we have farewell tests for every other player who didn't have a farewell test? Gambhir, Srinath, Sidhu, etc? Sehwag's record in recent times is so pathetic that he does not warrant selection in the Delhi Ranji side. Heck, he doesn't even warrant selection in teams such as Tripura. May sound harsh, but the stats speak for themselves.

Is Rahane a #6 batsman? He should at a minimum play at #5. Can he actually bat up the order - is he an opener? If he does open - it provides additional options for India...but for now - lets not change too many things - maybe just at #5 instead of at 6. The hunt for 6 continues - after Saurav Ganguly - Yuvi, Raina, Kaif and bunch of folks have been tried...Nohit Sharma will get a series or two - we shall see what happens. Who are the people who have been tried after Ganguly - Yuvi and Raina mainly (and now Rahane/Nohit) - any others tried out in the past few years?

This trio will go a long way, mark my words. Rahane, especially, was very impressive this time around. Granted this performance was in Durban but I was greatly impressed by his ability to bat with the tail. Rohit Sharma should be replaced. He appears to be the weak link in India's batting lineup.

For me the find of the tour has been Rahane. We all have see Kohli and Pujara, albeit mostly in Indian conditions.

Jaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma will be a Paani and one of them will be dropped after NZ tour.Jaheer may even retire, since Dhoni preffered not to give him a single over in 2nd innings of Durban test.

why arent pujara and rahane considered for the ODI side?

Because we play our home ODIs on such pattas that every time I watch a part of the action I get the feeling it is the biggest patta I have ever seen. Cowlashers are rewarded on such tracks with innings of 70 off 40 deliveries. And with this myopic thinking we miss out on a chance to develop a solid ODI side capable of performing in all conditions. Granted ODI wickets across the world are on the flatter side, but even pattas have a range and with two new balls it is essential to have solid players at the top for the next World Cup. The likes of Raina are a disaster waiting to happen next year.
