Dhawan and Rohit.. can happen. Once in a while tail has to step up to eat the overs atleast so that time is lost . Atleast they should have stood there blocking everything with low back lift to give company to Rahane. They had to go for wild swishes.

So many people on the forum claim that Ishant doesn't learn after playing 50+ Tests. Well, Dhoni has no idea how to bat outside the subcontinent even after a total of 80+ Tests. And Nohit still hasn't become a consistent player even after playing 100+ ODIs. Hence, this proves that Dhobi favours players who are very slow learners like him - it enables him to hide his own shortcomings.

India's first innings would be 400, second innings would be 300. SA would need 200+ in about 40 overs. Too much to ask? Now, imagine if Dhoni successfully accelerated in the first test, with Rohit contributing a few more, like Peterson and Du Plessis. SA would be chasing 500+. We would have a completely different series. I didn't watch India bowl to Steyn but I wonder why they didn't have the balls to go round the wicket and aim for his head? Even at 135k, a few bouncers could've roughed him up. He certainly didn't have any problems doing it to Pujara and Kohli. This is Dhoni's failure as batsman and captain. We don't take the field to win, we take the field to destroy. Otherwise stay home.
JourneyMan Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Considering how young this side is and how poor our previous overseas test series were, this one was quite beneficial. It's a pity we couldn't hang on for the draw in this match and win the previous one, but we finally seem to have an in-the-works team that can compete with the best on their own turf. Quite a lot of players showed that they have what it takes, as for the ones who didn't we need to look for better alternatives (that's why I say it's an in-the-works team, because it still needs to be optimized). The thing about this team is that players either performed well or they failed. There was no middle ground. If Dhoni, Rohit, Jaddu's batting, pace bowlers would have even performed averagely maybe things would have been a little different. Either way, I'm not writing Rohit off altogether and if Jaddu bats well I consider it a bonus because he's been our best test bowler this year (Ashwin might have more wickets but Jaddu picked up the crucial ones). Shami shows promise (even then, he isn't that quick), but we need at least two genuine fast bowlers alongside him.

Peterson was out 1st innings lbw and today. 1st test had great umpiring except kallis (not out lbw) and abdv decision (out lbw) All in all, our bowling attack let us down. I keep saying it. Unless we have quality fast bowlers we wont win a thing
