CG Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 So you agree it was not flat atleast for 2 days. But lack of lateral movement does not automatically means flat. Pitch had good carry. Cracks were widening. Batting was disciplined from both sides in the second innings. Ashwins failure for India and morkels absence for SA helped SA and India a bit. Both were short of one bowler. Getting bowled out 47 is not the only indication of pitch being juicy. India made 600 runs in headingley in 2002. First day pitch was very hard to bat. Ball was whooshing around. Even bangar put his down an d played responsibly. Sometimes we have to realize good batting can make pitch look flatter much like good bowling can make a flat pitch look like juicy. As i said we batted first in both tests so we did get the tougher of the conditions,But its true pitches were the not the ones we expected or like previous tours.When u do not get Steyn special pitching middle and hitting off in sa u know the pitches have been decent.

That is rarely the case in SAF. So, I would call the Wanderers pitch tougher than normal. The Durban pitch was much more flat.

That's why I am looking forward to NZ pitches now that the coach has said they will prepare green tops etc. And we have a better attack now with aaron and pandey. Just hope they get picked. Imo, this change is good and they should be tried out because you need the best combo to get 10 or 20 wickets and the last set of bowlers couldn't do that.

O well am sure over next few years kohlis and pujara will shut all up. I feel many around world feel sad. As had nicely sterotyped us again cos of last few tours away, back to being ftbs who can be bounced out etc. Not just paks who cant stomach the fact that it aint so.

But probably won't happen. Would have Zak, Ishant, Shami in tests and Ishant, Shami, BK in ODIs probably.

As had nicely sterotyped us again cos of last few tours away, back to being ftbs who can be bounced out etc. Not just paks who cant stomach the fact that it aint so. exactly- people like Boycott, Pak fans etc but interestingly there are many more from the traditional hater contingent who acknowledge the tremendous capability of these indian batsmen e.g. Domonic Cork, Angus Fraser, Mark Butcher, Rob Key, Bob Willis, Ian Botham, Mark Butcher, Ian Ward have all been complimentary in fact when Indian batsmen recently finished their golden run in CT Trophy, against Aus in ODIs and Windies in tests/ODIs- Domonic Cork said that if Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan do well away from home they will comfortably confirm their status as the best three batsmen in the world Also when india were doing horrible in recent ODIs against south africa- Angus Fraser was asked if this proves that India batsmen are FTBs and he said they obviously are not but they just need more practice on south african wickets and blamed BCCI for not giving them warm up matches anyways- many ex English players like think Boycott's a nutcase. It was off the cracks which were not many.We had similar thing happen last time also in durban.It was lively but flattened out which was one of the reason why we could not win compared to green tops we got in 2006/07.

While SAF batsmen, most of them ranking among top 10 batsmen .... scored 244 against the worst pace attack among big teams. Is anybody calling SAF batters FTBs. ? They could bat only when the pitch the pitch flattened .... Even against the worst pace attack. Got hit on the body numerous times against Shami and Ishant in the first test.

They had won 16 tests in a row. Even if they had given , it would not have been totally laughable. But they didn't. They accepted the defeat without whinging. But with Pommies, Padosis excuses usually galore.

express bowling Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 In the last ODI series against WI, I remember Rohit getting out to a full blooded pull shot caught at the boundary. It was a good shot, just misdirected. Before this, he had played quite a few sizzling hooks and pulls in the innings to the quicker bowlers. But , Bishop commented that an eye has to be kept on his ability to play the short ball .
