Ram Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Flat won't mean the bowlers will be irrelevant and anyone can score. There would still be bounce in those pitches.poor batting lineups like Pakistan will struggle I'm sure. They certainly won't the slogathons of the kind we see in India. WC 2003 Final was flat but all matches werent.I remember Nehra,Srinath,Zak having on great game each atleast and guys like Lee,Anderson,Bichel doing well too. Also there was huge gap between SRT and 2nd highest run scorer in that WC IIRC. not 120,technically correct batsmen or ones who can handle bounce like Dhoni will do well but I'm not sure of guys like Raina who seem almost scared of short stuff Johnson in India series wasn't unplayable. The pitches were of flattest category and Rohit,Dhawan,Kohli,Dhoni made loads of runs.yet Raina and Yuvraj seemed as if they were batting at WACA. And its not about MJ alone.others have troubled him too.Raina nowadays goes on the backfoot even before the ball is released expecting a bouncer. GG isnt spent yet.has few issues against swing though.More importantly he has a good record in Australia. Dhoni is the finisher we need.No.7 would most certainly be an allrounder.need to identify no.4 and 5. Well, I disagree with you. To say that Suresh Raina is among the top 5 indian batsmen in ODIs at the moment is lunacy. In fact, I’d easily rate him above the top order darlings Dhawan and Rohit. He has more experience than them, he has a better temperament than them and is a lot more consistent than them.
vvvslaxman Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Rohit can bowl' date='no?[/quote'] Too friendly to be called a part timer. He is below that part timer level. Not like Duminy, Samuels.
vvvslaxman Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 We have long way to go. We might find some new faces unexpectedly. Nothing is set in stone at this point.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Raina has supporters on ICF?People think that he will succeed in Australia? @Ram You alright bro?I know after what happened couple of months back you may be in shock, but still this is beyoond shocking.
cowboysfan Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 the most annoying thing about Raina's batting is his jump even before the ball in bowled(anticipating a short one),its screws up his whole mechanics and its all downhill from there.

vvvslaxman Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 In domestic cricket guys like Raina should learn to play without helmet. You will be forced to learn to play. Look at this guy lol he has come to ground like he is going to office, to face Dennis Lillee and totally pwns him [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8lfKm0NRnQ]Alvin Kallicharan destroys Dennis Lillee - YouTube[/ame]
Pagalpanti Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Yuvraj over Raina anyday Raina and Yuvraj are equally inept against quality short bowling, which brings other factors into play like age, fielding, contribution in other aspects. Raina the bowler and fielder is better. Moreover I hope they use Raina at 6, that is the best place for him. He can't build an innings, don't make him do something he can't.
vvvslaxman Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Rahane definitely surprised us in the test series. He could do the same in ODI series. Rohit could lose form in a jiffy. He might become totally unusable in an year. So let us wait..
SLICKR392 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Rahane definitely surprised us in the test series. He could do the same in ODI series. Rohit could lose form in a jiffy. He might become totally unusable in an year. So let us wait.. If Dhawan could do a CT in WC, then Rohit, if out of touch could slip down to #4 with Rahane/Pujara opening. Gambhir wouldn't do any harm opening as well as he has some good scores to show off in ODIs at Australia. Scored a back to back 90 in the CB while he was out of touch.

Agree that he has a wonderful ODI record, but I'd like to see Rahane and Pujara get some chances as well. In fact, the ideal XI would have them both as well as Gambhir. To be honest, I don't know how long Dhawan will sustain his form in pace-bowling friendly conditions. Dhawan Gambhir/Rohit Kohli Pujara Rahane Dhobi Jaddu 4 bowlers I believe that in OZ, we need our 3,4 and 5 to be technically adept while also scoring at a good clip, and I think the above order could do that. Rahane has done well in T20s and also in Tests too, and Pujara has a phenomenal List A record. Do we need Raina/Yuvi? Another outside prospect could be Jadhav, who has a 50+ Avg in List A allied to a 110+ SR.

In form gambhir with good technique like before is crucial for next World Cup He did well in Australia before in Odis and if he gets rid of Pokemon technique he can easily come back in side ..he was big reason we won't last World Cup and even that t20 World Cup he seems to do well in finals too and has a great odi record
saneindian Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I wonder for how long this appreciation for Pujara and Rahane as middle order bats in ODIs will go on. Last time Pujara got his chance , he was considered not ready for ODIs after a couple of failures vs Zimbabwe where he looked totally at sea. In the end, as someone said, both Yuvraj and Raina will play in that 2015 WC. Yuvraj may be out of the team for now but all it will take for a comeback is a couple of strong performances in domestic cricket given his fabulous pedigree. Hopefully the Project Raina has been shelved forever as Raina is best left at no 6 with Dhoni at 5. Having said that, Rahane and Rayudu deserve to start the ODI series in NZ with Raina being benched.
rahulrulezz Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 How can we even think of dropping some one likeRaina. A genuine match winner who puts team before himself.

Rahane has so many shots which can work In Odis at number 4 and he can play good bowling too Pujara more than looking at sea just failed which can happen ...rohit played at even slower strike rate than him in Zimbabwe but no one cared....

I just feel he would be a good addition to the WC side 'if' Dhawan fails to sustain this glory run of his. Otherwise I would have Dhawan-Pujara opening with Rohit down the order at 4, Dhoni at 5 and a decent finisher or a good slogger down at 6. A more sensible Yusuf Pathan may be. I haven't seen a lot of Jadhav in List A or IPL. I wouldn't mind if Gambhir doesn't make it to the XI if Dhawan is in good touch before the WC. Pujara-Dhawan will be a very handy opening pair. May be Chand could make his way to the side. Has done well in Aus during the U19.
rkt.india Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I will have Raina at 6, Dhoni at 5. Top 4 should be proper batsmen.
The Outsider Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Problem is not Raina, but Project Raina. The guy is not good enough to bat in the top 4 on pitches with something.

Not saying Rahane or Pujara cannot be successful ODI batsmen. Am talking about the fickle nature of the fans who will waste no time in dubbing them as failure if they don't do well in a couple of matches
rkt.india Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Not saying Rahane or Pujara cannot be successful ODI batsmen. Am talking about the fickle nature of the fans who will waste no time in dubbing them as failure if they don't do well in a couple of matches that is because they were unproven commodity overseas before. Now they have shown that they can handle the pace and bounce and I doubt now anyone will have any problem in giving them a longer rope than the likes of Raina and Yuvraj who have mostly struggled against pace and bounce and cannot bat in top 4. Top 4 should have proper batsmen and not just sloggers overseas.
