I would say that Lungis were the smart ones who never got tricked into the stupid propaganda en masses, now even the other communities are dumping their tradition of being paid killers of Bharat. I dont know about Bhayya states that have problems of Poverty, unemployment, backwardness, lack of opportunities that leave no option for youngsters , but Punjab is one state where in the 70s-80s it was very common for every household in rural areas to have atleast 1 young Man Working in the Army, in some families all the Young men were working in the Army with their father and Grandfather having retired from the same profession. Now in the current era, the situation has reversed 360 degrees. The youngsters today would laugh at the prospect of being an ArmyMAN, thanks to better standard of living and growing opportunities in other fields. maniac Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Dude :WTF: are you talking about.....My B-I-L(Sister's Husband) is a Colonel in the Indian Army,My Cousin is in the Airforce and so many of my other family members and people in my family netowrk are in the army. And most of these guys are engineers and could have easily have had the option to migrate for a better life abroad but they chose to serve the nation as in the case of most army officers from the South. There can be easily a sterotype i can form by saying that NorthIndians get into the army because they have no other option but I won't because of being closely associated with the Army life style since Childhood. I respect them and admire all of them way too much. So Stop talking from you a** Op

I see plenty of south Indian internet warriors but few actually with the cojones to do it in real life. Why Discuss. :icflove: About 6 years or so ago (time flies) I had a tet-e-tete with a Gujju here about something similar about their representation in Defence, or lack thereof. Back then the Indian Armed Forces demography was published and hence it was easy to search web and figure out which states are well represented. UP and Bihar were 1-2 if I recall correctly. Today that data is not published to citizens so not sure. There are more than one reason of course. Perhaps the biggest one is economic, specially at the Jawans level. In Bihar, for instance, thats a pretty well respected position unlike in Karnataka (say). Incidentally this is no different in USA. Often Defence Personnel come from certain part of country. Arizona, Nebraska etc. You wont find too many New Yorkers or Californians joining in, richer states. There is also a point about Nationalist vibes. I do think, generally speaking, this is a trait prevalent more in certain parts of India, South India not being one of those :winky::winky:

As stated earlier that data is not public now, or atleast I am unable to find it, so not sure about other states you have mentioned.

Which means they are smarter than us northies as everyone knows that being a grunt in the army is the worst job in the entire defence force. :haha:

The reason why it is not done is perhaps to avoid hard hitting questions like - Why under-representations of Muslims? Perhaps? This info is pretty easily available for developed countries.
