I think it has more to do with British army in India where they hired mostly "warrior" races like Rajpoots, Gharwals , Gorkhas, Pathans etc mainly from north India, and the same tradition is still carried on by Indian army even today. Otherwise I dont see a reason why they still have region/caste based regiments and hire majorly from these regions. Another thing is south Indians are generally at the backseat because of their lack of reading/writing/speaking skills in Hindi which is a major factor why SI underrepresented in central govt jobs.

i have read army doesn't show interest in recruiting fromGujarat, because too many gujjus fail to meet the minimum chest size. so army probably target specific geographical locations where to recruit depending on physical, economic/education and tradition factors

Maybe secretly they love our neighbours.
Cheap ! There are Southie jawaans who gave their life for the country in those wars as well and low life's like you try to pull off cheap banters such as these.

Region based units are all mostly old units. They have some more like Sikh,Madras,Mahar ,Maratha,Kumaon and more. The old ones continue to stay the same ,but now most new ones are mixed troop units.

This is so true based on my limited experience with gujju girls as well. I know small sample size (no pun intended) but still, has to count for something.

Stats were provided in the thread by Lurker. Read his posts please.
Didn't see any link to any stats. He said it is not publicly available. Now, since you started the thread, I presume you had some data to back it up. :winky:

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see numbers listed for 1968-71 and 1995-96 http://archive.is/NDg8H Recruitment for 2011 http://www.peopleofbihar.com/profiles/blogs/over-4500-biharis-joined-indian-army-in-2011-2012
looks like punjab has foresaken a lot. they dropped from 31% to 7% in 25 yrs. :cantstop: and just 1 soldier from Chandigarh :hatsoff: but do a simple math. UP alone has higher population than AP, TN and kerela combined.

I think Rageaddict had a valid point earlier in the thread. Recruitment from Punjab is drying up. Probably no coincidence that the decline started around the same time as the khalistan independence movement. Also i will admit, the numbers from south India are not as bad as I anticipated. They are still not where they should be but not absolutely dire like Gujarat either. Gujjus why have you forsaken the Indian army? :cantstop:
