BCCI to review away performances | Can Duncan Fletcher be sacked?

Recommended Posts

Since the next WC is in Australia' date=' we should get a bowling coach who's bowled a lot on those pitches. Lillee? Mcgrath? Mcdermott?[/quote'] Mcdermot is with Aussies and he is only available for test for them while even if you hire them I wonder if there will be any difference in our bowling.

No guiding light, rudderless India continue to flounder http://www.hindustantimes.com/specials/cricket/asiacup-2014/asiacup2014-topstories/no-guiding-light-rudderless-india-continue-to-flounder/sp-article10-1191933.aspx It was Duncan Fletcher's renowned tactical acumen and man-management skills that landed him the India job in 2011. But it is the continued failure of these qualities to make an impact that threatens to sound the death knell of his coaching career. Excuses were made, justifications were given, but results have been absent. The team surrendered one series after another with the Champions Trophy triumph being the sole standout. Fletcher was recommended by his highly successful predecessor, Gary Kirsten. The former England coach was seen as the man most suited to guide young talent as India headed into transformation. But there has been little evidence of his influence as the team has lurched from one defeat to another away from home. Fletcher barely interacts with the media. And players hardly credit the coach with any special input. On the other hand, they are happy to thank seniors, be it Sachin Tendulkar or Zaheer Khan. The team repeating the same mistakes and questionable selection of the playing eleven only added to the mystery about his role. The best example of a coach inspiring players can be seen in the way Darren Lehmann has transformed Australia within a year. On Wednesday, as they pushed to get the last two South Africa wickets to clinch a series win, the former player was in the stands demonstrating how paceman Ryan Harris should get the ball to swing. Two wickets in one over and the job was done. Fletcher's excuses have run thin after India's Asia Cup debacle. Virat Kohli initially had wanted a more hands-on Fletcher, but that has not been the case. Keeping the team's spirits high is the job of the coach. Fletcher, apart from talking to batsmen at the nets, seem to contribute little. India had just two practice sessions and he could not push them to work more. India had their chances against both Sri Lanka and Pakistan, but let go of the advantage. And after Ajinkya Rahane replaced Rohit Sharma as opener against Afghanistan, helping India post their highest opening stand in the tournament, Rahane stressed it was the ‘management decision'. It finally suggested Fletcher had his say with Kohli only filling in for skipper MS Dhoni. However, not giving Cheteshwar Pujara or Ishwar Pandey a chance, even in the inconsequential match, has only raised questions about the intentions. In Stuart Binny's only game against Sri Lanka, the all-rounder batted at number eight and was given only four overs. Pacer Varun Aaron was not given a game, not even against Afghanistan, to put forth his case again after a forgettable outing against Bangladesh. Amit Mishra was the only reserve to get a couple of games and he justified his selection in them. The World Cup is less than a year away but the team struggles to find the right combination. In New Zealand and South Africa, India did not win a game. And beating only Bangladesh and Afghanistan is meagre returns for the world champions here. With Fletcher's contract up for renewal, the World T20 is his final shot at redemption.

We need fresh ideas. We need a coach who can transform an average player in to great player. We don't need a yesman who just clings to his job by keeping the captain happy.Players should not get complacent & should always be on their toe for Performance.

I agree that Fletcher needs to go but ultimately the coach can not transform an average player to a great player. That has to come from the player himself. The majority of our players only care about performing good-enough to retain their place in the side. There's no desire to be the world's best batsman/bowler/fielder.

Fletcher is not going anywhere as he has the players support and respect and will be there till 2015 WC.

Duncan Fletcher should suffer the fate of a Sehwag or Gambhir, says Sunil Gavaskar http://www.samachar.com/Fletcher-should-suffer-the-fate-of-a-Sehwag-or-Gambhir-Gavaskar-odkwKAchajf.html Duncan Fletcher should suffer the fate of a Sehwag or Gambhir, says Sunil Gavaskar Under Duncan Fletcher, Team India managed just one overseas Test win out of 30 matches played and have lost on 12 occasions. Press Trust of India | Last updated on Monday, 10 March 2014 21:37 Printfont size-+ TweetPin It New Delhi: Former captain Sunil Gavaskar on Monday lashed out at chief coach Duncan Fletcher and called for his immediate ouster while suggesting the name of Rahul Dravid as the next coach of the Indian cricket team. "For me, Duncan Fletcher would get 1.5 in a scale of 10 as far as his success is concerned. I believe a younger guy should be appointed as the coach of the Indian team," Gavaskar said. "Rahul Dravid is one man who is enormously respected and is a successful captain having won series in West Indies and England. When he speaks, the Indian players, some of whom are superstars listen to him as they know how much preparation went into his game," he told NDTV on Monday. He was very scathing while talking about Fletcher's role as the chief coach since his appointment post 2011 World Cup win which has seen the performance of the Indian team go down abysmally. "I know it's only 11 months for the World Cup and people don't want to tinker with support staff. But had it been the staff of 2011 (Gary Kirsten, Paddy Upton and Eric Simons), I would have agreed. But what has Fletcher done. He has done nothing. His achievements as a cricketer wasn't anything incredible. He was an ECB reject. The ECB dispensed with his services," a livid Gavaskar said. "A coach has to be somebody who is in touch with the modern game and take the team forward. If Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh all stalwarts of Indian cricket can be dropped on poor form then why not drop support staff for poor performance. "Fletcher never had credentials of Gary Kirsten or John Wright, who were achievers in international cricket." Gavaskar also said that flip side of appointing someone who had retired in last three to four years is that he might carry some "residue from his playing days" having shared the dressing room with some of the current players. "You don't want that situation where some residue of the past can come in the way. But India does need a younger man in touch with modern game," the batting great said. "The way things work in India is completely different. Kirsten was never the most talented cricketer but he was very successful in both Tests and ODIs. He did it the hard way and when he spoke to the players about value of hard work and training, they listened to him. You need someone with a positive outlook, with fair bit of receptivity and flexible thinking," the legendary opener said. He said that India as a team has not improved one bit in these three years. "In Fletcher's tenure, there has hardly been any improvement as a team. There has been no improvement of players individually also. Somewhere, this slide needs to be stopped. There is still 11 months left for the World Cup. It's a lot of time and the current lot has done nothing," he fumed. Gavaskar spoke about how Indian teams over the years got major success under former India players. "Only successful cricketer who wasn't successful as a coach was Greg Chappell and that too for a variety of reasons. Look what we did after the 2007 World Cup disaster. Ravi Shastri (Bangladesh), Chandu Borde (England), Lalchand Rajput (World T20 in South Africa), Chetan Chauhan (manager in Australia) were there with the teams. We had an incredible year," the man with 34 Test centuries and 10,122 runs to his name, said. "In 1983 World Cup, we had an Indian as a manager (PR Man Singh) and in 1985 World Championship of Cricket in Australia, it was Erapalli Prasanna who was the manager. Which means that we have capable people who can successfully run the team," he said.

I am glad Sunny is livid. I do not understand this logic about do not fire before WC theory. If the fat feck stays in his job, we are going to have a miserable run to the WC and and an embarrassing exit. Why not take the chance, fire his fat auss and hire someone more credible NOW? I mean how much worse will it get? We are so far down, we can't go any further thanks to the fat ausshole!! Sunny is correct. The fat feck is a LOSER and a REJECT!!!
