Switchblade Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/domestic-cricket/vijay-hazare-trophy/I-get-lazy-when-I-take-rest-says-Mohammad-Shami/articleshow/31909173.cms Mohammad Shami has undoubtedly been India's most consistent bowler this season. He delivered even in a one-off domestic appearance on Tuesday, combining well with Ashok Dinda to destroy Tamil Nadu and guide Bengal to the Vijay Hazare Trophy semis. As another international assignment beckons, Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be hoping that the nippy pacer continues the good work in the World T20 championship which begins in Bangladesh on Sunday. There have been talk of too much cricket for Team India regulars like Shami, who play all three formats of the game. But Shami, who turned 24 four days ago, is not worried about burnout. On the contrary, he is enjoying his game thoroughly. Despite playing non-stop cricket since making his Test debut in November against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Shami looks fresh and hungry. Asked if he would have preferred to take rest rather than play a solitary match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shami said, "I returned from the Asia Cup five days before this tournament started and thought playing a game would help me stay match-fit. I'm someone who stays fit by playing regularly, rather than taking rest. I tend to get lazy when I take rest," he said with a smile after bagging 4/25 against the strong Tamil Nadu side on Tuesday night. Looking ahead to the big tournament, Shami said he was aware of his responsibilities and looking forward to taking up the challenge. His approach in the World T20 would be to keep things simple in Bangladesh. "In a T20 match, there's little scope to try out something different as your four overs are over in no time," Shami said. He will mainly concentrate on maintaining a good line and length. "I don't think there's much difference in terms of line and length in any format of the game," Shami felt. Talking about India's opening match, against Pakistan, Shami said, "This 'big match' tag is for the media and fans only. For us, it is just like any other match and we prepare for it normally." Tuesday's four-wicket haul, just before leaving for Bangladesh, will boost his confidence. "I always try to bowl my heart out and was happy to get the results (at the Eden). I hope to carry on with the same fire," he said. Hard work was the secret behind his success in recent times. "I am working hard on my game and am always trying to improve," he stated. He enjoyed bowling with Dinda on Tuesday night, saying, "it's always good to bowl as a unit. It's important to complement each other. I and (Ashok) Dinda supported each other very well."
Old guy Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Like I thought he is bowling so much cos he wants to and clearly thinks that's the only way he will improve Also this to me shows his fitness level and also the fact that his action is good for his body and not stressing him much.. As a test bowler this will come handy in coming years.
G_B_ Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 see and people on ICF got their undergarments in a twist cause apparently shami was playing too much. I saw no deterioration in his pace was around the 135 mark. As the age of 24 it should not be an issue. good on shami was admitting that. everybody is different. some people have self control some people goto the gym some people say fit by playing sports. Shami is sort of like me. I hate the gym but i like going for jogs to stay fit.

It is not like he played domestic one day just after Asia Cup. He had a few days of break. It is not about pace. Your body might be working well which was doing for him as he sustained the pace but some times, your mind does not go well with what your body is doing and lacking concentration and hence, the lack of consistency.

Each ball you bowl should have some purpose to it.

There was a 10 day break between the Sa and Nz tours. I dont mind that at all. More than anything i feel shami can play at eden gardens blindfolded. Its his home ground and it shows in his test stats. I for one am impressed he chose to play for WB. Many others would have taken a break.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 shami has that old school mentality of match fitness, good to see. we are only reccomending rest because we dont want him injured for his own health's benefit and for india.

Other than what I said above, a Vijay Hazare trophy match is no match to the pressure they face in an international match against good quality batsmen, high level of competition, and mostly on flat tracks. I do not think he has yet bowled in that kind of helpful conditions in international cricket which he got in Vijat Hazare match till now.
tweaker Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 He is supremely fit.He has a good rhythmic action.I just hope he remains fit & does not loose his speed.
CSK Fan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Yes, because our bowlers all know what is best for them, right? Anyways, this is getting real sad, Dhoni kidnapping his relatives and making him give all these statements. Where will it all stop?
Lord Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Zak also used to say all this BS.remained injured half the time he may not want it,but he NEEDS rest.its clear when you see him
Crookbond Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Zak also used to say all this BS.remained injured half the time he may not want it,but he NEEDS rest.its clear when you see him Zaheer returned a better bowler after playing County where he bowled, bowled, bowled and more bowled more.
black_death Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Zaheer returned a better bowler after playing County where he bowled' date=' bowled, bowled and more bowled more.[/quote'] I will think bowling in county is very different from bowling in the domestic tournament.
rkt.india Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Zaheer returned a better bowler after playing County where he bowled' date=' bowled, bowled and more bowled more.[/quote'] Better as a bowler tactically, not as an injury-free bowler.
putrevus Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 It is not like this guy has been lights out ,he has struggled so it does not matter what he thinks and says, his pace was down and it looked like he was going thru motions in both second innings of second tests.

Nothing new.
G_B_ Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I will think bowling in county is very different from bowling in the domestic tournament. LOL wut they are both domestic tournaments. age matters and a 24 year old should be in the fitness of his life. Maybe 30 onwards you need to take care of yourself. Maybe what you can say is temperature for bowling is more conductive in the English summer.

Body will still be maturing and getting stronger till the age of 25.
Gollum Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Shami is a very exciting prospect for Indian fast bowling. Hope he doesn't lose his mojo after a couple of years.
veer Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 IMO, Shami is going to prove expensive in T20.. players will throw bats hard at his 140s pace.
