as of now things are looking good for india. young batting lineup has played well in sa and nz. shami and bhuvi can trouble any batsman. only weak link is spinner and to an extent 3rd seamer. on the other hand eng has gone down a lot from 2011. they lost kp, trott and swan. anderson has deteriorated a bit. board has always been unpredictable. cook and bell are also not in great form although their form could change after sl series. overall if dhoni can pick 3rd and 4th bowler wisely, india can compete really well. anyways it will not be 0-5 this time around.

Why are you comparing Dhobi to erstwhile keepers when keeper was just in for keeping. Dhobi averages under 30 overseas (SA,ENG,NZ,WI,Aus) which is by one of worst records of current wks and on top of he is an atrocious captain due which his performance as WK and wicket keeping batsman is overlooked. He gets treated as if he is above criticism. If he were just a WK he would have been sacked long time ago.

We are considering dhonis selection in indian cricket team. so comparing him with past and present indian wicket keepers only make sense. comparing him with gilchrist, sanga, stewart, ... does not make sense here coz when it comes to selection in india team, we can only consider indian players.

again it does not make sense to compare him with other teams wicket keepers as we are considering indian team selection. if I said dhoni is one of the best wicket keeper-batsman in the world, then wat you said is valid. but that is not the case here. dhoni is cleary above all the past wicket-keepers india had. reg present, am yet to see any better wicket-keeper batsman in domestic circuit. tell me the name of one domestic wicket-keeper who will give us 30+ avg in overseas tests. you may say we will find out only if we try. but if we drop dhoni, who will captain? kohli clearly is not mature enough yet and there is no other person as well. so wat am trying to say is you need to consider the overall value dhoni adds to the team and not just his wicket-keeping skills. then compare that to any other available wicket keeper in india who will add more value than that. then you will understand why its important to continue with dhoni till kohli matures or a samson develops into a world-class batsman.

yes i agree. but he is not just a wicket-keeper and we have to accept that fact. he is the best limited overs captain in the world he is one of teh best limited overs batsman in the world he has won 2 world-cups for us he has taken india to no 1 ranking in tests he has won 2 ipls and 1 champions trophy for his club he has a test average of 38 he is a decent wicket-keeper he is very strong mentally. only ganguly comes anywhere close to him in that sense and we certainly need a captain with that capability and not someone who is immature like kohli. when we consider all these things, do you think a saha can replace him? i also don't like his adament selction policies and defencive test captaincy. but when we look at the pros he is way above any other alternative atleast as of now. am not saying all these for the sake of arguing, but a different angle to look at things for those people who think we need to remove dhoni from test or even from all 3 formats.

Only chance of winning is if our batsmen posting 500+ first innings total. in case of kohli there is a risk of losing his batting form as well if made captain. there is already glimpse of that with rcb. he is too short tempered that it will be hard for him to concentrate as a batsman if made captain. we can hope he will mature as a person in 1 or 2 years and then can replace dhoni.

what if he does not mature then we wait for another guy to mature .Dhoni has had his chances and he failed again and again time to give a new captain a chance,which is not going to happen sadly.

He was never great in IPL and is still not a T20 batsman. He has done well for India when captained till now. Right selections and right tactics can do wonders for any bowling attack which Dhoni has been lacking. His shelf-life as captain is over.

you may be rite. one never knows until we try it out. but dropping a player of dhonis caliber just for the sake of trying out a new caption does not seem like a wise decision.
