rkt.india Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 What rubbish! You need to use condoms even with your wife; otherwise, every one will have a cricket team at his home. Condom is an easier birth control method too.
urbestfriend Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Nothing wrong in what he said, if anything headline is misleading.
CSK Fan Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Actual quote "The thrust of the AIDS campaign should not only be on the use of condoms. This sends the wrong message that you can have any kind of illicit sexual relationship, but as long as you're using a condom, it's fine," Dr Harsh Vardhan was quoted as saying. Why would youth (or other Indians) listen to preaching? So if they are able to increase condom use, their job will be done. Morality and other things can be taken care of in colleges, etc
Detonator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Nothing wrong. A married person who is having sex with others is cheating in any religion.
Khalpat Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 As a Union Health Minister, your job is not to preach Indian Culture of Kamasutra but to tell people the importance of having safe sex.

Crookbond Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Actual quote Indian media But the primary goal of such groups is not to preach. Why would youth (or other Indians) listen to preaching? So if they are able to increase condom use, their job will be done. Morality and other things can be taken care of in colleges, etc Not just Indian media but NYTimes too - http://india.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/06/23/health-minister-questions-stress-on-condoms-in-aids-fight There's nothing wrong in the article. Btw, Harshvardhan wants to promote sexual abstinence before marriage as an "alternative" to condoms. The health minister thinks that having sexual relationships outside marriage is against the "integrity of the sexual relationship". Since, people are no longer following our artificial sanskaar and sabhyata; Harshvardhan wants to tackle this sanskaar issue by making condoms the "enemy". This is not surprising coming from Harshvardhan if you know his past comments on the issue. In 2009, Harshvardhan wanted to do away with sex education because teachers were shy to teach it. In that light, this is just a logical extension. Something similar about condoms was also said by Sushma Swaraj during the NDA government rule IIRC. If I'm not wrong, she also went all out against AIDS awareness/condom advertisements as an I&B minister.
gs Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Govt should stick to governing and not advising people on morality. What exactly is "Indian culture" and who defines it?

Unless you like to be a contrarion for the sake of being one as is the MO of sickular Richard Mongers.

And what exactly is wrong about promoting abstinence in a overpopulated sh!thole? Unless you like to be a contrarion for the sake of being one as is the MO of sickular Richard Mongers. The problem with correlating abstinance with overpopulation is that we live in a day and age where frequency of sexual encounters do not translate to babies, due to contraception. Infact I'd say that the most over-sexed parts of the planet, such as Ibiza, Sweden, Germany, etc. all have lower than median population growth. Trying to preach sexual abstinence to human beings is like putting a bone in front of the dog and telling him not to lick it. You know it will happen the moment you look away.

Trying to preach sexual abstinence to human beings is like putting a bone in front of the dog and telling him not to lick it. You know it will happen the moment you look away. Except I am not trying to connect the two. My point is to highlight the manufactured outrage on the most benign issues that a certain section tends to partake in. Harshvardhan hasn't said he'll ban contraceptives, has he now? But conflating overpopulation with imaginary issue of moral policing screams confusion. Because if the said minister was to actually take up the issue overpopulation in earnest, the same people would scream infringement upon their freedom to procreate. Misrepresentation of the actual statement is reported as major news, while repackaging of the free medicine program that will provide 30% more drugs for the same amount of funds is a byline.
rkt.india Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 he is right :giggle: he is advocating monogamous relationship which is in Indian culture .. chances of getting AIDS is less if we follow it :nervous: Which culture? Indian kings used to have multiple wives. Shri Krishna said to have 1000 wives. Only Ram had one wife but he was exception. We have made exception a norm.:cantstop:
