For something like pace, you gotta watch holistic statistics. What were his average speeds last year/ last 6 months etc. does he retain pace in later spells, back to back matches?  What are his peak speeds etc. 

 

For Morkel, who was just naturally quick his entire career and you can’t really teach pace to these international guys. Who’s in charge of the selections? 

 

The reality is Siraj is on a decline. Bumrah body can’t handle test matches beyond 1-2 matches. Next in line are Harshit and Prasidh. With Prasidh, the guy is mentally shot. I mean which moron bowls at 147-150 so frequently in the recent ipl and does not even bowl a single 90 mph balls in an overseas test? And then we go about selecting Kamboj vs Harshit. 
 

I would start with the selectors and coach. Agarkar should have shown some f common sense and encouraged quick bowler selections. Gambhir should have had some common sense to persist with Rana instead of trundlers.

 

You give any bowling coach bowlers who are at the dawn of their career or with physical limitations, u can’t really do much. Rather be realistic and get the high potential players in at first. And then give them some time. It’s not that complicated.

This is the 1st intnl game for Kamboj so would not read much in to his performance, but there  seems to be a trend emerging in this which is similar to pre gangully era where any random player will be selected and got to play play few matches and then a new one got in  because the local boards or zone wanted some of their player regardless of their intnl quality or some player had backing from one of those bigger boards.

 

Mukesh and Kamboj look to be same, there were not much knowledge about them and suddenly they stated making into IPl teams, may be Hryn had 1 good season but it was kind of team performance and there was no name of Mukesh but he gets in to all3 ind intnl teams before making to IPL.

 

They seems to have some kind of backing, there are videos of sports journalist calling Kamboj an allrounder when he can hardly hold the bat, it was the time when it was said if a bowler is sun 140 kmph they should be able to bat so just to fit him they started calling him allrounder.

 

The template for a test fast bowler has been the same and has not change a bit- Sustained fast, bouncy and zippy and accurate why Ind selectors are not getting it ...???

 

Yes in t20s its hard to find a perfect bowler as every1 is going for runs and bowlers needs secondary skills to be regular in the team.

Some def kssues behind the scenes. Kamboj bowls 140 in nets and trundles in at 125 during the game. Bumrah is not even bowling at 140 and looks like he is playing with an injury. They should've sorted these things out before the game.

he hardly bowled 140+ kmph in ipl would be surprising he was bowling 140+ consistently in nets with red ball

That's what Morkel is saying, if not 140 he is saying he looked much quicker in the nets.

In an A team game earlier, Kamboj bowled lots at 77 kph, 78 mph. 

 

I doubt he was much quicker in the nets.

 

Morkel is trying to cover up the faux pas of choosing a military medium pacer without much analysis.

Yes ,Rob Walter NZ head coach fast tracks him to the national side for his raw pace

Raw pace is seen as crime in India,looser field placements are done when someone bowls at that pace and then they blame the bowler and wait for him to get 29-30 years old to give him debut or second chance

Injury can happen anytime, even while playing first test so this bs of playing three tests is useless. Play as long as you are fit. You can't control injuries. If injury happens, it happens.

Yes,but I also feel we should carry atleast 8  pacers for a 4-5 test series who all can bowl atleast 135-140 atleast for 2-3 spells

As much as we can curse our bowlers, which I also did. Fact of the matter is, England is killing test cricket. They have intentionally prepared pitches that are not going to help our fast bowlers. This series has been absolute trash because of  England choosing to prepare dead wickets. Had the same been done in India, all English media and players would be crying foul. 

 

Next thing India should do is, just play 4-5 spinners. Its a waste of time to kill your quick bowlers.

Mayank Yadav is out for atleast 6-8 months

If gets fit in above mentioned time,will play IPL and again get injured rinse and repeat,no fc cricket ,just play IPL and rest injured rest of the year

We should try to copy what the SENA boards do and manage  their teenage/young bowlers

Someone bowling mid to high 130s in t20s is not going to bowl at that pace in test which is a common knowledge.

Its safe to assume in test a bowler will be bowling 4-5 kmph below their t20 speeds.
