At least we didn't select a 29-30 year old washed up off cutter pacer. Or heck I'll watch Mavi all day over Boobie bhaiya.

Second you on this, a bowler who was clocking 140+ in age group is down to mid 130s is saddening to see. I just hope he was down on pace because of debut match jitters, else he is not a longterm investments another Thakur, Mukesh kind of a bowler in the mix. Though I never thought him as 145ish bowler, he is somewhere in 142 range, but today he was too slow, when IPL teams are trying to find a V.high pacer from open trails, its hard to digest that a bowler coming from BCCI system with all the facilities and motivation in his early 20s bowling sub 135 that too when they just need to bowl 4 overs. His balls didn't even get the kind of seem Pandya was getting even at those low speeds. Not sure if at his height he will be able to get any bounce and if you minus the pace that's just club level/weekend cricket level bowling Edited January 3, 2023 by tapandrun express bowling 1

I wasnt impressed as well..I didnt see initial few balls from him..but whatever I saw..he is following Bhuvi factory..too many out there like him..Arshdeep is already doing good at that pace..England and co will eat you easily.. I am looking for pacers who can do well against Eng-Aus etc..not just feel happy about beating SL.. for ex: Umran was troubling them when he tried bouncing them..even after getting hit for six he bowled a venomous yorker to Shanaka..and got him to mistime on 155 kph.. the rush of facing 150kph does that to you.. express bowling and tapandrun 2

Such a far cry from his promising output during the u19 WC. Yes he's had to come back from serious injuries since then, but yes today was quite disappointing. I had hopes of Umesh Yadav mark 2.0 for him, a more hostile, disciplined version who would benefit from being around an improved pace bowling culture and resource exposure from a younger age; on the shorter side, but proper rapid pace, skiddy due to his height etc. He looks like yet another journeyman medium pacer today. Its unfortunate. rollingstoned, Vijy, express bowling and 2 others 5

Srinath was v.sharp plus tall, he was a better and quicker version of Dushmantha Chameera (SL- RAF), had v.good zip, his balls does not seems to lose much pace after pitching in his hay days, but then he had shoulder injury due to excessive bowling and no real fast bowling help from the other-end, he had to lose the pace for longer spells and prolong his career. In my opinion Aron and Umesh were the quickest of all both were genuine 145+ bowlers and with some support they could have been 150 ish bowlers. I guess Aron was a tad faster than Umesh. But he had array of injuries during his career and v.less support from BCCI Credit to Umesh to keep his fitness top-notch and not giving up-on pace. He still clocks high 140s. If Ishant had gotten the guidance he received from Jason Gillespie in county cricket 5 years earlier than he did, his career would be markedly different. Indian cricket culture did not know what to do with a pace bowler toolkit that young Ishant possessed. Same problem that Srinath suffered from. By the time these blokes got their tactics and muscle memory of bowling and adjusting lengths, bowling intelligence in terms of how to bowl to a plan, set up batsmen in different conditions and formats, they already had too many bowling 'miles' on their bodies, and were past their physical primes. Umesh has been that rarity not just in Indian cricket, but in Cricket overall - a genuine top level pace bowler who hardly ever got injured. Freakishly athletic. Only 'flaw' was his lack of height, but even that can be adapted with skiddiness. But he bowled a lot of jaffas here and there, but couldn't put together the combination of discipline, bowling intelligence etc, that the once in a generation self-taught talent that is Jasprit Boomrah, for example. Its taken 10 years after IPL for the Indian team to actually put together a top shelf test calibre 3 man or 4 man pace bowling attack - for decades of my cricket watching life, we always had weak links at the 3rd or often even the 2nd slot. Now Indian cricket culture is finally learning how to invest, develop, groom young raw pace bowling ability into finished products. Hopefully the likes of Umran, and the next ones after him, get to develop into effective 'finished products' while they still are in their physical pace bowling prime.... The problem is not just ERs but they do not look threatening at all-Kind of toothless, all they rely on batters making some mistakes. Batters are nt scared on them or they donot have any variation that troubles the batters. No.7/8 batter hitting them for 6s and plus not having a comeback ball after getting hit is a major concern, every-1 will get hit for a 6/4 but they should have comeback ball. What we saw today with Umran after getting hit for a 6, he came back with a superb yorker and then 155 kmph ball. Currently no Ind bowler has a comeback ball, so its easy to score easy 13-15 run in an over and if needed 19-20 run in a over is also possible against Ind bowlers. tapandrun Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) This set-up seems to be promoting and showing much love towards 130kmphish bowler, Umran too clocked 150+ only once. He is slower than what he was bowling in IPls, no sharp bouncer on batters' noggin. He was hitting all Ind super stars on their lids v.consistently. Nothing of that kind in Intl. matches In last 5-6 years Ind has come-up so far in fast bowling that at one time they were considered as the best bowling attack and there were results to show for it. Not sure why they are going back to Trundlers when there are many high pace and 2-3 v.high pace bowlers. If this mind-set remains for 3/4 years Ind pace bowling will be on their old ways of having 125Kmph bowlers opening the bowling for Ind and other teams non-regular AR bowling faster than them Edited January 4, 2023 by tapandrun express bowling and Suhaan 2
