Bumrah was consistently bowling 136 k to 143 k in his earlier spells today.

He is injured.

that was written before he went off permanently.

Him being injured only reinforces the point, of course. that action and runup are not gonna be sustainable, even with lower workload in tests.

Can't blame on that. Bumrah has bowled 151 overs, Cummins 152, Starc 149, Siraj 144. Bumrah hasn't bowled significantly more overs than others.

Bumrah cannot take the workload that Starc and Cummins can

Yeah, but Cummins was young...he debuted at age of 18.

Bumrah is already 31...dont see many examples at this stage of career. Expect minor adjustments there won't be major reforms.

That is what I already said in my above posts

Bumrah can at best make his runup feasible, being hip dominant he's generating his entire pace from shoulders and hyper extension which is majorly run up fed

With age the fluids will dry eventually,he will certainly have frequent shoulder problems

Major tweaks are out of the scene but he needs to do what he can to sustain his longevity that is readdress his runup

Infact noone in the history of Aus pace bowling (140+ kph) that I have seen has done this ever before

Noone i remember from the past, those who did where at best 135

I am sure Bumrah won't retire anytime soon from tests unless the doctors say that him bowling will make paralysed.

I really hope, but I don't think his body will allow

He could have ,had he was surrounded by proper SENA experts

Apart from Cummins and Starc, fast bowlers from every country, playing test matches regularly, get injured from time to time.

Don't know why we single out Bumrah !

I guess the reason is we dont have enough bowlers except Bumrah. (Shami is old).

The moment he is injured, it all becomes depressing.

I don't recall Ambrose, Holding, Marshall getting injured - all were quite fast in their peak. Brett Lee also played a lot of matches for a pacer much faster than Bumrah. And there's Starc (faster) and Cummins (about same pace).

yes, exactly. we are not Oz or SA who can bring in 18 yr old maphaka.

Pre T20 era was different. Till 1990 was a bit different too as very few ODIs were played. Primary focus was on preparing the body for test match bowling.

Pacers of that era played a lot of FC cricket inbetween tests, at less than full intensity and effort, and prepared their bodies for bowling 20+ overs a day.

Bumrah has already played 45 tests and picked  205 wickets, which is near full career for most pacers till 1985.  And had one long and one small injury induced break. Pretty standard for successful careers of that length.

So we can't pin it on his action as most pacers of THIS era are getting injured from time to time too. Many who don't even play tests.

Main remedy is preparing the body for 20 to 25 overs per day bowling.

Naturally, yes, that is why we tend to bank on him more, understandable

I would be more than happy ,if he's burden is shared

Heavy lifting which he does should be shared

That is why I wanted Tyagi,Umran,Mayank,Harshit to have made into the team but lack of planning, vision from both BCci,state boards have added salt to the injury besides poor from(especially from Umran,Tyagi)

You cannot expect IPL franchises develop these young quicks, you have leapfrog the "standouts"

I seriously expected Umran to be Shami's backup, had immense ability and mind you he too can wield the bat to send bowlers out of park

Such a package we failed to acknowledge and develop, the way we go out of box to develop batsmen like Gill(who have consistently failed for last 4 years)

Had we dealt the same way with guys who could have been like for like replacements of Bumrah,Shami,Ishant or even Umesh,Indian cricket would have benefitted a lot from it

Issue raised was " his action and run up are not sustainable ".

Bumrah has successfully sustained it for 9 years. 45 tests, 205 test wickets, 204 international matches, 443 international wickets.

That's a near full career for 70% to 80% of good Fast bowlers.

Whether we can afford his injury or not is a different issue.

His action is indeed hard on his body, as he will go older he will find hard to sustain the intensity. Thats where we need another strike bowler to compensate for Bumrah.

Here Bumrah has done the work of stock bowler as well, too much pressure on him. Not only physical but mental pressure as well.

But on the other side I feel he still has atleast 3 years of Test cricket in him. Maybe once he crosses 34 he might go Boult's way and retire from longest format.

We are seeing so many pacers from every country, with supposedly good actions, faring far worse than him. Isnt it ?

Bumrah was bowling 136 k to 143 k with accuracy, movement and bounce even this morning, playing his 5th test on the trot and shouldering majority of the wicket taking workload.

I don't know how many years he has left. But we can prolong it by proper planning.

Prepare three or four good 140 k+ quicks for tests and ODIs by giving them chances against weaker teams ( instead of wasting them on developing and then dropping 130 k+ pacers ).

Get proper personnel at the NCA rehab wing.

Get a good strength and conditioning coach for Team India.

Yes, Bumrah's career can be prolonged by proper planning. He can easily play for 5 years as well.

But that won't happen, selectors don't have any vision. Many of us are saying here since ages that we need replacements for Umesh and Ishant...all we got are seasonal frogs like Mukesh, Unadkut and Avesh.
Harshit has been a passenger with team India for months and was directly thrown under the bus in Australia, one poor game and he was crucified. Akashdeep too got the same treatment, and I'm worried if it's curtains for Akash's international career.

Australian bowlers this series are taller and are able to generate bounce off good length, pushing our batters on the backfoot. Our bowlers are short and have to put extra effort to get the same amount of bounce, it's bound to impact them.

Very happy for Prasidh. I was one of the few who backed him when even experts in this thread didn't

Our pace attack is coming up decently.

Bumrah, Prasidh,Harshit for Aus/SA bouncy tracks

Bumrah, Siraj,Akash for England and NZ type tracks.
