We have to focus on pacers who have the fitness to regularly play FC matches and sustain 140 k+ speeds.

That's how we got Srinath, Ishant, Umesh, Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh.

Gurnoor and Ashok are 2 such newbies now.

I think Tyagi can sustain his speeds in LOIs. Felt like he improved a lot lately and he has the attitude to bowl quick with no compromises.

Well the problem is that that approach if it’s intentional (assuming it’s not fitness or rhythm issue) cost his performance directly. A young bowler simply CANNOT have an attitude like that.

Mayank actually generates the speed based on his rhythm and release...it has to be 100% perfect for him to hit those speeds.

Today, if you see his runup from the side, he isn't able to complete his action properly. At times it feels he is just rushing at the last moment to complete

Every bowler at intnl level has a default speeds in good rhythm they can push speeds a bit without looking like to be trying for it and some time putting extra effort bowler can get more speed , default + n.

Thats why bowler like shoib were able to bowl 145+ kmph with even a shorter run-up and Lee after his itnl retiremts was cranking up to 150 kmph in bbl (his last season)

Aaron was bowling 140+ kmph in IPl (his last season) same fr umesh

Bond had multiple injuries and surgeries stll retuned with 145+ kmph pace same for Styne with his injuries, its the default default what matters

Mayank default speeds are allover the place. think right now its high 130s and he is pushing for extra pace when he is bowling 145+ kmph, bowler like Mohit and Thakur has bowled 145 kmph when they 1st came into Ind side

He shouldn't though.

Ideally when he already had wkts and confidence high...he should have tried all the variations he had to get wickets. Today he had runs behind his back.

Bumrah does that, when he is on top he bowls even quicker.

Zim series is a practice for these bowlers to prepare themselves. He shouldn't be taking it easy.

That’s true but the argument was that his default rhythm is messed up today.

My personal take (assumption) is that it’s a mix of attitude and fitness and those two causing a rhythm disruption.

Mayank had the ability to bowl quite fast. I think in his debut FC he was easily clocking 145+.

Even in the SMAT games of 2021-22, and that IPL. He was consistently clocking 145-150 with peak even hitting 153-154. He was toe to toe with Tyagi.

Both Mayank & Tyagi have gone through action change. While Tyagi is more or less set now with his pace of 138-148kph...Mayank is still oscillating. I think its an attitude issue as well.

Hope both Ashok Sharma and Mayank Yadav are in the playing 11 today.

If only one of them gets to play then I would prefer Ashok as he is fitter and was top wicket taker in SMAT.

This is why I wanted this before this series.

With Ashok you are more likely to get a fully fit pacer bowling full tilt.

I was saying this since he was out of reckoning for so long. Better to get a run and then build it from there

The thing is it was like mayank bowled 156 kmph some 2 years back, he has not been able to sustain the speeds that he bowled in those 8 overs.

There is no signs that he can, its just ppl are hoping that one day everything clicks ..

Not sure that is going to happen, and without that pace he is just a no skill bowler

From cricbuzz

Mayank Yadav in this series (by speeds)
140-plus kmph: 2/9, 21 balls, ER: 2.57
Other deliveries: 0/34, 21 balls, ER: 9.71
He bowled 17 balls at 140-plus kmph in the first T20I, just four in his three-over spell today.

Just 4 140+ today..very disappointing..

if this continues.. “A” teams of SENA sides can also hit him for plenty

They should have given stats for 147 k+ balls.

Mayank bowled 8 or 9 of them last game and just 1 today.

140 k+ is nothing special in T20s.

Not only was Mayank slower today but was much less accurate and got less bounce and movement.

Basically he was not able to bowl properly today. Everything was off.

He should be bowling more and more.. that's the only way he is going to get the rhythm going.

His fastest today I saw was 146kph in his second over.. guess he was properly warmed up by then.

Maybe he didn't go full throttle deliberately

Quite possible.

His fastest was 147 kph today.  Probably 3rd ball 2nd over.

Is he concerned that his body may not handle back to back matches…3 in 4 days..and esp today and tomorrow with less than 24 hr recovery time..he deliberately didnt use much gas today

Which is why I said it's important for him to target 150-155+

If you train your muscle to reach peak 150 ,then you will forever remain a 145+ even in your strongest phase when you were supposed to be express

I always had my doubts over Mayanks mindset,he will settle to be an occasional 145 pacer

Yes if tm is playing you for your pace and bounce atleast  live upto that expectation
