Ironically, in the mid 1980s, Chetan used to be sharp with a whippy action. Tried to bowl as fast as he could with effort.

But people change when they grow older.

for his frame, he was quite sharp. but on visual evidence he did not look like > 135 kmph. of course, even 130-135 would have been considered fast given the lack of bowling resources

I wonder if this is because, as you have written, our pacers are somewhat down in pace at the moment. this strategy works better if one has extra pace and/or bounce. this is where the likes of prasidh could have come in.

Siraj can too bowl at high 140s but only in rythm,he looks jaded , fatigued

That's where rythm goes out of window

He needs time to refresh,or too much shagging in covid times might be a case of early fatigue

Guru Kirsten's advice works only with Shami. For others there are side effects.

Siraj is a pacer who has looked really good when the pitch has provided some assistance. Like Melbourne, Gabba, Ahmedabad 4th test and Lord's.

But he has looked unimpressive on pitches which don't provide that much help. Probably lacks the extra pace for such surfaces.

Early days but if this trend continues then we should probably use him mostly on helpful surfaces where he is a match winner ... and rest him on flatter surfaces.

Who has looked good on flat surface? Even Bumrah looked ordinary.

Bumrah has bowled well on flat surfaces many times in the past.

Moreover, Bumrah, even yesterday, was going at 1.9 runs an over while Siraj was going at 4 rpo. Happened in the last test too.

Bumrah bowled defensively while Siraj was trying to take wickets. There was an edge through slip for four too. Siraj was attacking the stumps and conceded some runs but also created chances. Bowled better than Bumrah in fact.

Yesterday Bumrah was trying to bowl channel balls with bounce and get the outside edge. He got his line wrong, which is why he did not get wickets.

Generally speaking, in their test careers, Shami and Bumrah have bowled better on flatter tracks compared to our other pacers.

Bumrah hasn't bowled on flat tracks yet. Most of his tests have been on good overseas pitches.

Today, Bumrah and Siraj need to bowl in tandem. Bumrah bowling in the channel while Siraj attacking the stumps from the other end. Won't be easy for batsmen to adjust.  Need to create a mismatch from both ends.
