adi B
Dis agree. And this is coming from a guy who has been following soccer from 98 (club and national). Messi is no where near the scoring instinct R9 had. Forget the dribbling, R9 scored. Watch his games, if you are new to this. The places and positions R9 scored from was just unbelievable. His Hat trick at Man u, or His semi final goal against Turkey, simply marvelous. Again, I am not against Messi. But he does need to start up showing for his nation too. Even Robinho overshadowed him in 07 copa America. Ronaldo's hatrick at old Trafford was the best performance by an away player no doubt but messi too has destroyed teams single handedly be it la liga or even ucl. He has dribbled past 4-5 defenders to score solo goals many times like its a piece of cake for him.watch his 4 goals against arsenal in the ucl qf second leg at camp nou,u Will be awestruck at how he flummoxed the gk. Ronaldo to was brilliant but not like messi

Ronaldo to was brilliant but not like messi Ronaldo when he scored that hatrick was past his best. This was when he had become semi fat R. Thus could not do those mind boggling power house dribbles. However, in that game he did not do that much but burst in to life for 3 superb finishes. Had to be subbed as too fat to last 90 mins:giggle: From that period he was all about being the deadly cool headed finisher. Messi getting way too much grief. Played ok. But whole tournament argentina set up to be organised and tough to break down, then rely on quick counter attacks. Just imagine if meesi had been at the apex of that Germany team, who wanted to have possession and go offensive!! However, this is what seperates him from the great Diego. The debate is settled forever. All hail Diego Armando Maradona. He would have picked that argentina team up by the scruff of the neck. Firstly would have whipped team in to a frenzy before the game/half time etc, a true leader loved by his team mates. Then would have been all over the pitch conducting the play, driving them forward and then doing deadly things in the business area. Messi basically waited for moments in the final 3rd, to finish and create and left it at that. Maradona would have drooped deep, dictacted things when needed to and then pushed the team forward. Messi needs a good team around him and then magnificent, maradona even with average team can make things happen and make that average team winners i.e Napoli and 86 Argentina. I would add that no player in current era could have picked them up and pulled them to the win like maradona. That's how great messi is, as the poor lad is only comaparble to maradona and in that comparison no player has been produced who can compete in that unfair comparison! As before that he was slim athletic ronaldo:giggle: Look Ronaldo was a pure out and out forward. While messi lies deeper and plays more on wide areas or behind a front man. Comapre Ronaldo to other forwards like Fred:--D Messi plays different role
King Tendulkar
You have not watched enough football so I won't enter into a debate on this topic. But I'll say only this - Messi is better than any other footballer currently. 110% agree

As I said in another thread - win or lose, he always looks like he's out for stroll in a park. Always expressionless and aloof from his team, he just doesn't have leadership qualities (at least till now). In the whole of the WC the only time I saw real emotion from him was when he scored the penalty during the Arg-Ned penalty shootout in semis. Also, he can be far more devastating if he actually moves more and tries to control the play instead of waiting for the ball to come to him.
