Kohli has failed in every innings of this England trip,not even going past 50 in any of the innings.The worrisome thing is his mode of dismissal,getting out to bowls pitched around the off stump.This means he has problems againist the bowl outside off stump. Pujara has scored just one 50 in last 5 tests. Dhawan continues to fish outside off stump and then fish all the way to the pavillion. What is the future of Indian batting???
vamos_rafa Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Not sure about Kohli/Pujara but Dhawan needs to go. He just can't play as an opener in England. Bringing Gambhir back would be a good idea actually as he would also bring in some experience.

Hopefully, they strike form and get their average higher. I don't expect them all to average like Murali Vijay (60 in this series), but at least we need couple of batsmen averaging 40 above by the time series ends. Murali, on his own cannot win this series on his own batting even i he continues to average 60 throughout this series.Ajinkya and Bhuvi are supporting him well. It will be difficult if we have 4 batsmen performing below average throughout this series.

But PUjara's failures are perplexing. He was a finished product unlike Kohli. Too much of lapse in concentration. Placement of ball is also bizzarre. IN the first test Cook set a fielder specifically for straightish shot . As a good batsman he should have been able to avoid that funky field setting.

He seems much more capable of that position and rightfully deserves it. Many people say that pujara is next Dravid but I personally think it's Rahane. As of now, Rahane is miles ahead of both pujara and kohli in away tests and am becoming a bigger fan of him than the other two. One problem with pujara is his acl injuries have restricted his shot making and now he is putting more emphasis on trying to be part of LOI squads which is complete stupidity. If he stays like this not too much hope for him in future

Failures will be there as a part of their development pressure. And a 5 test series will give them that opportunity to get back their form, just need to fine tune their technique and make minor adjustments.
express bowling Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Kohli has suddenly developed this technical issue while playing outside the off-stump deliveries primarily on the back foot. Until he sorts it out, there is very little hope of him succeeding in swinging/seaming England this series. Kohli succeeded in both the previous away tours, SAF and NZ. That will give him confidence that he can do it overseas. Especially because of his successes against Steyn, Morkel, Philander. He has these sudden lapses of concentration which prevents him from getting big hundreds and drop slip catches. Needs to sort them out too. Pujara seems to have lost his proverbial concentration. No other issues with him. Result of ODI preparation ?? He did well in SAF against Steyn and co. but doing under-par in two away series on the trot. Needs to go back to his old self with high concentration. Both these guys are of the highest quality and should sort out their problems eventually.

It's just complete lack of presence and lapses in concentration.
oneANDone Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 We have bowlers and Captain on pay-roll to take responsibility for the defeat. then why bothering about batsmen :hmmm: After all they are all batsmen they need to be backed until they score some fifties even if it takes series loss or 10 matches on trot. even batsmen can be backed 7 years on trot for no real reason, and still expecting him to play and score some fifties.

Sachinism Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Players who have fixed spots in the team not performing are hurting us big time. Kohli, Pujara, Dhoni are probably the one 3 players who wouldn't get dropped for a poor run are the ones not pulling their weight.
