Sachinism Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Over the last 5 years or so, we've been skittled by many spinners, some of them part-timers. Is the old adage "Indians play spin for fun" outdated or just rubbish now.

India-KXIP fan Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Only time I've seen India really struggle with spin is when the core of the batting was players past their best in England home series. A huge % of all the overs bowled at home are spin bowling. India has a strong record at home.

Everything about selections for this test was wrong. The quicker we get rid of that goat-sacrificing mong, the better

Sachinism Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 You'd think the seamers will be an issue, but to allow a spinner like Moeen get many wickets is ridiculous. Anderson, Broad didn't really have to bowl that many overs because we're not putting any pressure on them. Bowlers don't put any pressure on their batsmen, and now batting looks fragile.

Straight Drive Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 These young players have ability to play spin for sure, but imo they do not have as much Patience and temperament in playing spin as possessed by the likes of Sachin,Rahul,Saurav,VVS. Leads to far too many wrong shot selection which gives away wicket. That is why nowadays even England spinners are winning matches against us. Better patience and temperament and these new look test players will score heavily against spin like previous greats.

vvvslaxman Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Don't go by this test. We are still good against spin. This was merely mental disintegration with large score. They had 1000 runs to play with. So they kept all the field up an tempted us. We fell for it .

Very same batters smash the spinners in T20 and ODI formats. The difference is just that some abilities are required more in Test formats than the shorter ones. As soon as they come to terms in implementing those attributes in the test match they will start doing well against long spells of spinners. They will hopefully play spin in test match as well as they do in T20 and ODI formats. Having Rahul as test format batting coach was a wonderful initiative by BCCI management. The coach can only do so much even though they repeat patience, temperament, fitness, shot selection and determination are key factors. These things are already well known to cricketers who reach the test level. Still the coaches probably tell them many times and put that thinking in their mind every test. However, ultimately it is up to the players have to implement some of the attributes required in this longer format.

Also with the focus on ipl our new batters are not equipped to block spinners. Heck they can hardly slog them. Rahane has been the gem in this line-up so far. Hope he continues to progress as a test batsman.

PBN Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Also the saying that Indians are brought up spinning tracks in domestics isn't 100% true. A lot of the tracks in domestics are pacer friendly esp in the north due the timing of the tournament.
