sensible-indian Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 One question: Was Saqlain ever reported? Cos back in Murali's days (before the 15 degree rule was introduced), if you had a kink in your action, you get reported right?
rkt.india Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Saqlain's deliveries when viewed in video doesn't have much kink. Only the image in Post #14 has a kink. His bent arm doosra could be around the 15 limits. Its definitely not 40 degrees for sure (which we can see by comparing the amount of extension Ajmal and Saqlain gets). I have no issue with Saqlain's action. It was not that bad in comparison to bowlers now.
rkt.india Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 One question: Was Saqlain ever reported? Cos back in Murali's days (before the 15 degree rule was introduced), if you had a kink in your action, you get reported right? Murli was not bowling doosra when he was reported. He was reported on normal off spinners. Doosra was a new thing for everyone in those days and Saqlain's off spin was fine. Not sure if he was reported or not for doosra.

Yes but still Murali was reported cos someone saw a kink in his action. The delivery which Darrell Hair reported cleared the test for even 5 degrees (if I am not wrong). Agreed the validity of those tests are questionable now but a lot of Murali deliveries were pure wrist power instead of elbow power. His doosras were very questionable. Now since we were using kink as the rough ballpark, I am wondering whether Saqlain was ever reported? He did use doosras in the 90's.
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I made this post in another thread too. I repeat - Saqlain's doosra isn't what you see from Ajmal or Narine today. It was bowled by under cutting the ball with a thrust towards the right. You can bowl a Saqi-doosra easily with enough practice.

It was bowled by under cutting the ball with a thrust towards the right. You can bowl a Saqi-doosra easily with enough practice. Even for that, you need to bend and straighten your elbow. No matter which way you bowl, it is not possible for an off spinner to make the ball go away without bending and straightening your elbow. Ball will only go away by giving revolutions towards first slip which is not possible without bending.
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Even for that' date= you need to bend and straighten your elbow. No matter which way you bowl, it is not possible for an off spinner to make the ball go away without bending and straightening your elbow. Ball will only go away by giving revolutions towards first slip which is not possible without bending. You don't need to bend - just like you don't need to bend**** on a top spinner. Think of it like a reverse top spinner - I can bowl it. The problem is that in this mehtod you can't bowl fast and the bowl would slightly deviate to get the outside edge or LBW. Ajmal etc. can almost bowl a leg spin with their method. **** I meant bend >15 degrees or unacceptable limits.

Siddu was hitting Murali sixes for fun in 1993 when he just had offspinner. So this chucking and doosra got him 800 wickets.
thongale Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 There is some sour grapes about Murali. Here is Murali bowling doosra with a brace. How much is the extension? 0 degrees. 1HZBukHqNxk
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 ^ It isn't a case of sour grapes - It is a case of people feeling a bit envious that a bowler who has genetic deformity can play the game at a different level and take advantage of it. Personally, I don't feel Murali chucked - his deformed arm was an advantage to him. Now, it becomes an philosophical point whether you allow people with natural deformity to extend the 15 degree limit or not.
sscomp32 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk5trKf9E8Y]Virendra Sehwag ending Saqlain Mushtaq's career whilst scoring 309 at Multan' date=' India vs Pakistan 2004 - YouTube[/url'] What a reply dude
putrevus Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 if people have deformity let them play in their league or bowl like Chandra who in spite of polio bowled with an impeccable action. This nonsense which Muttiah Muralitharan created with his deformity excuse is bogus, look on youtube and see how perfectly he could bowl legspin. Murali is a great guy who could have become a great leg spinner if chose to become one without anyone questioning legality of his action. His legacy has become headache for cricket now as chuckers are sprouting everywhere using his case as excuse. Mystery spin no excuse for chucking - Maninder, it is so correct.
mishra Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Full Sleeves in India is not a fashion statement but Chucking. He is a topgrade chucker who lived happily while Murali got the limelight
maniac Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Maybe I am desensitized to seeing all the chuckers these days but in the video posted above by Thongale.....Murali's action seems to be ok :hmmmm:
Precambrian Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Just some sore idiots who are still doubting Murali.. despite the guy having bowled under n number of conditions, heck including even a brace. But yeah these arm chair experts are apparently know-them-alls. Saying he used a deformity to his advantage.
rkt.india Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Maybe I am desensitized to seeing all the chuckers these days but in the video posted above by Thongale.....Murali's action seems to be ok :hmmmm: His deliveries there did not turn as much as they usually turn and they were pretty slow while match situation is completely different. If he was tested today like Ajmal and Senanayke are tested then we would have got to know the reality.

They have taken it into account for Ajmal, mind you.
Forever Indian Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 If you have a look at any picture or video of Murali you can see that he never has his elbows fully straightened. Look at the above picture as well as an illustration. It indeed seems like he is not able to fully extend his arms maybe due to a deformity. As per law even if you bend your elbow the angle of straightening is what counts, so he may well be within 15 degrees of straightening although his elbow would have bent by say 30 degrees. This was what was confirmed by the testers. For those claiming he was let off, I don't understand the conspiracy theory of that. The testing was done in Australia, and there is no Srini like godfather having influence at ICC to save him. If at all the big 3 especially Australia would have liked to see the back of Murali with him being the direct threat as an all time great spinner to Warne. PS. Before people come bashing me, I am no Srilanka fan infact I hate 'Spirit of Cricket' angels Lady Jaya and Sangappa :D
