Football is probably the fastest growing sport in India after cricket and cricketers are very popular so that may also help the teams in getting some more fanbase. Also, the Football League does not have that many big football stars so big names, be it from Bollywood or cricket, are needed at least in the start to draw TV audience.

With cricket & kabbadi at least there is infra and facilities, but with football and hockey hardly any grass root infra exist, these leagues will just end up being filled with foreigners Wonder how much of tv revenues and franchise fees will feed into development, or just end up greasing hands of babus

Its a fantastic news we are having more and more sports league and not only stuck with cricket. We all must encourage and take pride in it. Having said that, I do think cricketers should stay away from footy leagues like film stars should from IPL.
