Mohammad Amir promises to make a strong comeback

Pakistan's disgraced pace bowler, Mohammad Amir, who is currently serving a five-year ban from all forms of the game after admitting to be involved in spot-fixing, during Pakistan's tour of England in 2010, has vowed to make a strong comeback once his ban has been lifted. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved for amendments to be made in the anti-corruption code. It means that Amir is likely to return to domestic cricket, before his five-year ban ends. Amir is quite optimistic about making a quick return to the national team. "I am quite sure that the International Cricket Council (ICC) will act in the best interest of cricket and show leniency, and this will be the best possible solution. I am also very grateful to PCB, ICC and all those persons who stood by me in difficult times," Amir said in an interview with 'The Nation' The pace bowler also revealed he had got some offers to play domestic cricket. "I will decide soon about from where I should start my domestic career," he said. When asked if he would continue playing for his home state, Rawalpindi, whom he has represented since the start of his career, Amir wasn't willing to commit himself. He also said he would take a final decision after consulting his personal coach, Asif Bajwa. "I can't commit at the moment whether I will play for Rawalpindi or some other region or department. I am working on it and taking suggestion from close aides including Sir Asif Bajwa. I will sort out future very soon, but it will take a month or so to start playing domestic cricket," he said. Promising to leave his past behind him, Amir vowed to let his bowling do all the talking, as he has done previously. "I am a professional player and I am sure whenever given a chance to play for the country, I will focus on giving more than 100 percent and silence my critics with match-winning performances, just like I did in the past. I will only concentrate on my on-field performance, leaving the rest behind," he said. One of the fan favourites during his playing time, Amir has lost most of the goodwill he had earned after getting embroiled in the spot-fixing controversy. The 22-year-old reckoned he would win back their support with his performance. "I will win back my fans with tireless efforts and I am sure they will forgive my past mistakes. I will concentrate fully on helping, first my domestic side to win and then whenever given a chance and cleared by the ICC, help the national team to become a top cricketing nation," he said confidently. Amir agreed that he had lost a lot of time and couldn't bring those back, but he also insisted that he will look to make up for the lost time. "The future is mine, I will leave no stone unturned and try to recover the lost ground as quickly as possible," he said. Speaking about his fitness module, Amir said he worked on improving his physical and mental strength during his period of ban. "I have not stopped working on my physical and mental fitness for the last several years after my ban. I went to gym, worked on my fitness and trained with my personal coach Asif Bajwa. I am completely in shape roaring to go and can't wait to start playing again. I love cricket which is my passion. It is in my blood, and I want to forget my past completely and just want to focus on the days ahead. I don't know when I will be able and cleared to represent the country, but one thing I do know and that is I will be a better bowler than ever on my return," he concluded.

But it's Pakistan selectors and fans prerogative if they want tainted players like Amir and Asif representing Pakistan. Funny thing is if they do, then it won't be a surprise, because it is Pakistan after all!

On one hand there's this thing that he has brought disrepute to the game of cricket, on the other hand, he's done his time and the very purpose of prison time is to reform the person. Still feeling a bit uneasy that he'd be making a comeback though.

This time he will land his foot 2 feet outside the crease instead of just one feet. A strong comeback indeed. But you know what, there is no point in blaming him alone for fixing. My gut feeling is that many, many big names are involved in spot fixing for whatever reason - money, threat, etc.
