India failing to play boring cricket

Watching India (painfully) play this morning, it's quite clear that India lack the bowling talent to consistently take 20 wickets. It looks like it's going to be a long summer and most likely another 4-0. Now I know it's a flat pitch, and the ball is coming on to the bat nicely. However, watch this pitch suddenly become a minefield when India bat. The main problem I see with the Indian bowlers, is the inability to bowl six balls in the same spot. Every over, there is a pressure release ball. The only way India have any chance, especially with this bowling attack, is to beat the Aussies in terms of patience. Besides, Ishant's first spell (which ended in a wicket), I didn't see a single bowler bowl six balls in the same spot. Boring cricket wins a surprising amount of matches. If Warner is charging down the wicket and hitting over the infield that's one thing. But it's consistently a short ball on the pads or a half volley outside off. It's just lazy cricket and it's annoying that even though we've got 9 new faces since the last Aussie tour, nothing has changed.

^ Hahaha yeah boring cricket is actually a compliment. On a flat deck, you have to be willing to be patient and just bowl line and length and wait for batsman to make a mistake. The great bowlers got wickets even on flat decks from doing that (e.g. McGrath, Pollock, etc.) Only Ishant so far has even come close to doing that.

This guy Warner has scored 5 100s this year in 7 tests and this is first test he is playing against India so he has scored consistently against every team he has played, so lets give him some credit. While I agree Indian bowlers failed to be boring, but other than Ishant this is first test in Australia for other three bowlers. That is biggest problem with Indian team their seam bowlers never seam to tour any country twice and even if they tour like Ishant has, they are not great. Channel nine and other places conveniently seem to forget the drubbing which Aussies had when they toured overseas.

I am giving Warner credit but I think we allowed him to get off to a good start with some horrible opening bowling. While I agree Australia's record is equally bad in India, I think the biggest difference is the contest. During the last Aussie tour of India, they had some internal conflicts and injuries but over the past 10 years, it feels like when Australia play in India they are at least in the match for the first 3 days. When India come to Australia, it seems like we are getting smashed from ball 1. Add to that the fact that Australia have won a series in India 10 years ago.

I think I posted that on the wrong thread. Someone made a comment about our selectors not selecting the same bowlers twice for overseas tours. I was pointing out that a lot of the bowlers that have toured Australia in the last 15 years were selected for multiple tours. Srinath, Agarkar, Zaheer, Ishant, Harbhajan, Kumble, Ashwin and now Umesh have all toured twice. My point was simply that I don't think our overseas bowling has to do with selection. I don't see how you need experience in a certain country to be able to bowl six balls in the same spot, and bowl in partnerships. It's not like those things are somehow specific to Australian conditions.

It is not about how many times you toured some country, but the experience by playing a lot of tests which does not happen with our pacers. Except Zak and Ishant, our bowlers do not last long enough to understand that. Ishant got it now after 50 tests. Same thing had happened with Zak too who took 5-6 years to mature. Our bowlers take far too long to understand the nuance of bowling. Experience is precious. It teaches you a lot of things. We rarely have such experienced attack of tours. Now Ishant has started to bowl decently in last 1 year, Zak's time is over and now we have complete rookies again. These rookies has the ability to do well. They have done it when conditions are in their favor, but that too not consistently. They have shown glimpses but they easily lose the plot on flat pitches.
