Wish our commentators stop hyping up Kohli as a great fielder. If you are such a pathetic catcher, you can't be called a great fielder even if your out fielding is top class. Kohli in my mind is the worst Indian catcher since I started following the game. Kamran Akmal of fielding.

And with captain setting such a poor standard, the entire slip catching standard has deteriorated significantly.

Sachin was fat and virat is fit but whats the use...

Sachin was a great wicket taking 5th bowler, a very safe catcher and a fantastic arm at the deep.

sadly sachin's supposed successor virat is all batting and nothing else.

Virat is like Ganga in mahabharat, he keeps dropping them and we are not supposed to ask why!!!

i hope the press nail him in the pressmeet about this/

In test matches, great out fielding is of almost no value in front of catching. You can save 5-10 runs with those dives and fast runs, but drops cost you matches and series - like it happened in NZ series where McCullum scored a triple century after being dropped by Kohli.

This list includes all the catches that Kohli has dropped in Test cricket. The total number is 14, including all the fielding positions. Of these, 10 were dropped/missed in slips and gully, and the other four in FSL, BSL and silly mid-on. I have not included half chances and the like. These drops have cost India 597 runs (almost one-third of the 2000+ runs he has scored in Test cricket) Out of the 31 Tests he has played, he fielding has seen a sharp decline in the 2nd phase of his career - he has dropped 3 catches in his first 14 Tests and 11 catches in the next 17. In fact, he has probably been India's best fielder in his first 6 Tests when he was not standing in slips.

Here goes the list:

4th Test - Mumbai - November 22-26, 2011 - drops Darren Bravo on 23 (at FSL) - he goes on to score 48 - Match drawn

7th Test - Perth - Jan 13-15, 2012 - drops David Warner on 126 (at First Slip) - he goes on to score 180 - India loses

9th Test - Hyderabad - Aug 23-26, 2012 - drops Martin Guptill on 15 (at 2nd slip) - goes on to score 16 - India wins

15th Test - Chennai - 22-26 Feb, 2013 - drops Clarke on 0 - (as BSL) - he goes on to score 31 - India wins

16th Test - Hyderabad - 2-5 March, 2013 - drops Warner on 13 - (at gully) - he goes on to score 26 - India wins

17th Test - Mohali - 14-18 March, 2013 - drops Ed Cowan on 35 and 64 (slip) - he goes on to score 86. - India wins

17th Test - Mohali - 14-18 March, 2013 - drops Lyon on 12 (slip) - he goes on to score 18 - India wins

20th Test - Mumbai - 14-16 Nov, 2013 - drops Deonarine on 12 (at gully) - he goes on to score 21 - India wins

21st Test - Johannesburg - 18-22 Dec, 2013 - drops Smith on 1 (at BSL) - he goes on to score 44 - Match drawn

24th Test - Wellington - Feb 14-18, 2014 - drops Brendon Mac on 9 (silly mid-on) - goes on to score 302. - Match drawn

25th Test - Nottingham - July 9-13, 2014 - drops Sam Robson on 43 (leg slip ) - goes on to score 59. - Match drawn

28th Test - Old Trafford - Aug 7-9, 2014 - drops Jos Buttler on 34 (gully) - goes on to score 70 - Match lost

31st Test - Brisbane - Nov 18-21, 2014 - drops Steven Smith on 9 (third slip) - goes on to score 28 - Match lost

This was probably worst he did. He was positioned specifically for this and he was probably sleeping there. Move very late, went for it one-handed and as commentator said dropped a dolly.

Ashwin to Imrul Kayes, no run, is that a drop? Sharp turn from outside leg and Kayes comes forward to defend, edges it onto his thigh pad, and to the left of Kohli at slip. He dived, and it definitely carried to him, low to his left, and he got a hand to it. Not the first catch he's dropped in the recent past

Ashwin to Duminy, no run, dropped. Should have been taken, that was Kohli. Hard hands in front of his thighs. Grabbed at it too. Slower delivery outside off, Duminy gets a thick edge to second slip and Kohli grasses it

Ashwin to Imran Tahir, 1 run, another skier and Kohli has dropped it! Tahir slogged from outside off and sliced the ball off the bottom of the bat high towards midwicket, Kohli was running back and he called for it

Kumar to Brathwaite, 1 run, has to go down as a missed opportunity . Brathwaite's bat face is slightly open as he pushes forward, Kohli goes at it with his right hand at second slip, but can only get his finger-tips on that one. They get a run off the deflection

Yadav to Cook, 2 runs, edged again. Length ball slanting across, maybe nips away off the seam as well. Cook doesn't move his feet again, jabs at it, and I'm not sure if the edge carries to Kohli falling to his left at second slip. Dies at it reaches him, and the runs away. Not sure it carried. Will have to see more replays, though the TV commentators are convinced it was another drop.

Ashwin to Root, 1 run, dropped around the corner at leg slip by Kohli! Root turned this off his pads, couldn't keep it down and the captain couldn't grab it with his right hand. An early life

UT Yadav to Ali, FOUR, edged and flies past Kohli at second slip. Excellent bowling. Not often will you have three slips in the 56th over in India. Dropped, technically. A fuller than good length outside off, Moeen has a leaden-footed poke, gets a thick outside edge which flies to the left of Kohli who gets a hand on his dive.

Ashwin to Bairstow, no run, dropped, by Kohli at slip. He's human. Bairstow going for the reverse sweep and it goes quite fine of Kohli who had to dive to his left. Had initially spotted the reverse and was heading to his right

Jadeja to Ball, no run, edged and dropped. Kohli saves four. Those ones just stick. Flat and wide this time, Ball has a leaden-footed waft. The ball flies off the outside edge to Kohli's left at second slip. He sticks his left hand out, but the ball bursts out. Another technical drop, no chance really
